However, we have an official anime map of the Orange Islands showing where New Island, the setting of the first movie, is, and we also know Mewtwo broke out during Showdown at the Poke Corral so we're looking for some time after that.New Island is closest to either Cinnabar or Seafoam, but we know it can't be Cinnabar because Ash fought Blaine way before Mewtwo broke loose when it was still at the Viridian Gym. So Ash had to have received the invite when he was at Seafoam.Ash arrives on Seafoam during the episode "The Evolution Solution". We start the episode in Pallet and see him leave, so it CAN'T be before that episode. He's on the island during that episode. The next episode is "The Pi Kahuna" and is also set entirely on Seafoam. We never see them leave Seafoam, but by the time of the episode after that, "Make Room for Gloom", the crew is back on Pallet Town.So is The First Movie between Evolution Solution and Pi Kahuna, or between Pi Kahuna and Make Room for Gloom? Assuming the Porygon incident didn't happen and the episodes and movie all came out when they were originally intended, when would the movie have come out? Do we have enough information about the originally planned air dates to draw any conclusions there?

Also since I was curious and it's also on the map, I tried to pin down when the second movie happened by tracking Ash's journey.It did not help much. I already knew it happened sometime after Charizard Chills/Fairchild Island (since Charizard obeys Ash in the Movie 2000) and sometime before they arrive on the deserted island The Stun Spore Detour is set on since Misty gets her Poliwag and he's not in Movie 2000.....but the geography doesn't really help narrow it down because during the entire span between those two episodes they are basically doing a giant circle around Shamouti and would be in range of it basically the whole time. I'd have to rewatch Movie 2000 and see if it's noticeable which direction they come and go on
>>59112062The problem there is that the movie itself(in Japanese) and the map featured in it say the island is on the outskirts of the Orange Islands and in the north east on the map, while the English dub says it's dead center and that's what the guidebook the OP map is from went with. The Japanese version would suggest it was somewhere between the Ascorbia and Butwal island episodes(and if I rememeber correctly in the actual show there were bad storms trapping the cast on Butwal for a while), while the guidebook location would fit it being a bit earlier or later.
