>>59118740randbats on showdown is a good introduction too. it's very much simplified as you always know the exact stats your pokemon and your opponent has once you see them and the big hurdle of teambuilding isn't required. there's even a specialty damage calculator. a lot of things and pokemon are way better there like volbeat than the actual metagame, but it can get you used to the flow of battle. then, i'd reccomend what >>59118747 says, but only if your goal is to get as good as possible in the shortest amount of time. in my opinion, while i do enjoy reading about sample teams that people make, part of what gives me joy is teambuilding my own stuff. try out a bunch of different approaches, and do what is the most fun for you. don't be afraid to try out many different tiers and generations.
