If Gen 5's early Pokédex was actually good casually would it still be hated as much by the "I want to use Pikachu and Charizard!" players that supposedly exist? If Woobat was as fast as Zubat, if Pidove was a special Staraptor, if Zebstrika wasn't a physical electric meme, if Muuna was in a region were every Pokémon DIDN'T have random dark coverage ect.
Pokeboomers don't budge for anything. A bunch of them cite hoenn designs as bad and un-pokemon like compared to Kanto, makes 0 sense
the distribution is the bigger problem with them, BW1's early game is basically just the same 10 mons over and over and over and the one early standout (excadrill) is in a very small cave you don't need to be in for more than 5 seconds and only gets encountered via the special encounter method

It's more just the cool designs take too long to actually reach. Golurk would be nice to use, too bad you have to wait until the 7th gym. Bisharp sure would be nice to bring along, that's even later. And you have to go through the trouble of evolving them on top of that. And it's not like they're strong enough to justify that, I mean they put god damn Drilbur near the beginning of the game.
