Why does everyone whine about the lack of fire types in D/P/Pt, and never mentions the complete lack of grass types? The only non starter grass types that can be acquired without wading through a ton of bullshit are budew/roselia and leafeon. Which learns razor leaf as its only stab move at 15, and you recieve eevee at 20. Carnivine, Tangela and Cherrim are locked behind honey tree or great marsh bullshit. What a dogshit gen. Shiftry is decent early-game and fine in ORAS since it actually has a movepool. You also forgot Lotad who gets by solely by Surf. Gen 5 has Lilligant.

Grass type in general is just not really needed for Johto outside of dealing with an odd Quagsire, it's why people give Chikorita so much shit. Here's where Hoenn genuinely does you dirty>Shiftry learns no Grass moves naturally. No better off than Treecko or especially Shroomish. Its signature move is Extrasensory. Relying on ORAS means it took them long after Platinum to make this a genuinely decent pick and it's still just outright inferior to Breloom>Lotad doesn't get Surf until after Flannery, when it would've been most useful. It doesn't get any Water moves naturally in Gen III and you don't get a Water Stone until after Lilycove CityIf you're going to argue Lilligant is good, Roserade is effectively Gen IV's Lilligant. You should at least list Ferrothorn too, who is a much better Pokemon in general and that's solely thanks to the Steel typing rather than Grass itself. Grass is a type that's been done dirty since Gen II. It kept slipping further into irrelevancy until it gained the spore immunities in Gen VI. Meanwhile Fire was a dogshit type in Gens II-IV and every game afterward had been trying to fix and rectify that by overcorrecting newer Fire mons in general (or giving forms to older ones like Zard and Blaziken)
