It seems less like they disliked the games and more like they really like Morimoto. Which is understandable, he's a great director. The only other directors of multiple games are Tajiri (questionable in general), Masuda and Ohmori (generally slop with a few highlights), Iwao (USUM did the most it could with what it had and LA is probably the best borderline experimental title so far) and Morimoto (two of the best games in the franchise). It's hard not to glaze him.

Ohmori wasn't directing games by this point, it was exclusively the Masuda show by 2011 meaning Japan would've just been objectively sick of "his take" on Pokemon by this point if BW wasn't met with "universal praise" like it was said back then. But really I think the only outlet that actually praised BW was Famitsu's rare 40/40, which might be indicative that Masuda aimed for review scores rather than general success
