Linoone is a perfect example of this.Linoone is pretty eh, but Hoenn's pokemon availability is such that it's actually a very decent pokemon up until you get Surf. And then once you're there, Linoone has a level lead and EVs over whatever could replace it, so that's a less obvious choice.Most of the newer rodents have to survive in an ecosystem where you can get genuinely good pokemon or even first stage pseudos within minutes of starting the game, and there's just no point to that. You can use the thing that you will have to replace later, or the thing that's good for the entire game. Though I think that philosophy has reverse infected more recent rodents, who are made bad, because the early rodent is bad now. Greedent and Oinkologne are absolutely rancid pokemon under any circumstances, but it wouldn't batter if they were as good as Bibarel or Linoone because you can just go get whatever anyways. Why would you deal with them when you could go get the shitty flamingo and sweep the entire game
