Man, Gen 1 art was fucking wild. You have this, the vast majority of Pokemon being designed as sprites first, then Sugimori trying to divine what the fuck is happening with some of the janky spritework so you get things like Jynx having fins, then the Blue artwork that seems specifically designed to appeal to the western market where everything is edgier and cooler but doesn't get carried further in the franchise like at all so you get Venomoth with weird wing patterns or people getting the wrong idea about what Nidoking is actually like.
