>>59161414Pokemon is not really a show you can binge from start to finish. Every season from Johto Journeys through XYZ basically follows the same formula over and over. There are also long stretches of episodes where nothing really happens. Then when something does happen, it's not interesting because the formula only allows the story to go in a single direction every time. I can only watch bits and pieces of those seasons because it's just not very engaging episode-to-episode.Sun and Moon break the formula, which was overdue, but it also changes the art style and tone pretty dramatically that it's basically a different show. Some people like it, some people don't.Journeys also changes to a different formula, but its production issues are pretty evident because the storyline is kind of a mess. The best parts of it were the episodes that call back to or feature characters from earlier seasons.

Ash's Hoenn League battles seemed really garbage compared to his Johto League ones. Seemed really random but contrived, if you know what I mean. Like they compressed the battles just to fit them within episodes, but it led to really implausible one-shot KOs in way too many instances, just to move the battles along. Even implausible one-on-one outcomes in battles that weren't one-shot KOs. Felt like they were written by someone who has no idea how Pokemon battles actually go. They didn't resonate at all. Johto's were better. Kanto's were of course the most memorable, I'm guessing nothing can top that. I take on board that you say SM and Journeys were different in tone. That's cool, but I'm autistic and like to go in order (don't like missing history/context), so I would have to go through all the other seasons of shit just to get to them. Also yes SM art style is horrific. I'm thinking it's just not worth it. And now ('now') the voice actor change is the last straw. I will get through Battle Frontier, and then I'm done with the Ashnime. I am interested in Dawn's and Iris's characters, maybe I'll just watch YouTube fan clips of them to get a feel for who they are. Dawn kinda looks to me like a May clone with a different color scheme?
