If you look at their Megas (and Gigantamaxes), you'll see the innate appeal of the Kanto Starters>Mega Venusaur is more of the same because there was literally nothing else you could do differently. You contrast with Gigantamax Venusaur, which looks almost nothing like Venusaur because there was nothing you could naturally change>Charizard only gets either slightly more details in its Y design or is redesigned into complete edgelord shit for X or Gigantamax with the flaming wings. This is because it's a very plain design and only appeals to the "innate, cool" factor of dragons. The bastardization of Dragonite to prop up Charizard is what keeps this fucker relevant>Blastoise is a fundamental failure of expansion on its concepts in its Mega which is why it doesn't regain the supposedly iconic "previous form traits" lots of Megas include in their designs. It loses its iconic Hydro Pump/Cannon moves for dogshit like Water Pulse and Dark Pulse because it's a gimmickmon Game Freak doesn't give a fuck about. Gigantamax design is an improvement, but only works as a Gigantamax unlike the other two
