You can't convince me that anyone actually thought this design was good back when it was first revealed.
>>
>>59161426
You know you could've just replied to the other thread you didn't need to make a new one.
>>
It may not appeal to you but it's a good design. It's pretty much the ideal Pokémon.
>>
>>59161458
That’s not charizard
>>
>>59161458
minimal changes and "it just gets bigger" is not only the minority for pokemon designs even in gen 1, it's not the ideal evolution philosophy either
>>
>>59161470
>minimal changes and "it just gets bigger"
This is cool though
>>
>>59161426
It’s supposed to be a cat + frog
Japs love fat ugly cats.
>>
>>59161426
There's nothing wrong with Venusaur's design, it's just not as good as Blastoise and Charizard.
>>
>>59161458
>ideal Pokémon
>no wings
>not orange
>>
>>59161426
I liked it as a kid. I still like it now, actually.
>>
>>59161513
Ho oh?
>>
It makes sense in the context of the inspirations for the original Pokemon games. As a design it's not the best
>>
>>59161479
barely anything cat about it, more of a dino frog
>>
>>59161486
You see Blastoise is incredibly hit-or-miss, proportions vary a lot between products. I never know

People with digress and talents think it's a top tier design.
Children, normies and low IQ people think otherwise

correct

A dragon that breaths fire and flys?
wow how original
>>
>>59161532
The entire bulba line is greatly cat coded.
>>
>>59161463
Venushit and Charizard are both garbage. Blastoise is the only decent one of the three and even that was just tacked on to Squirtle's line at the last minute.
>>
>>59161608
It’s simple and yet genius
>>
>>59161426
Venusaur is made for Japanese
If you aren't Japanese, you won't get it

Difference between being a cat pokemon and cat coded. Like, I see the ears, but I can't remember ever seeing it called a cat outside of here.

Don't even need to look at this thread to predict the responses.
>NOOO ITS LE HECKIN GEN 1 THAT MAKES IT GOOD BECAUSE ITS LE OLD!

Then, in response to this they'll post some gen 9 shitmon and go:
>SO NEW IS GOOD RIGHT?!

And the answer is no, because it's got nothign to do with age. Charizard is a good design. Nidoking is a good design. Mewtwo is a good design. Raticate is a bad design. Venusaur is a bad design. Voltorb is a bad design.

It's not about the age (because unlike you fags I'm not blinded by nostalgia), it's about the designs themselves.
>>
>>59161741
I'd be more inclined to take you seriously if you took the time to explain WHY they're bad.

As opposed to just saying it.

If you look at their Megas (and Gigantamaxes), you'll see the innate appeal of the Kanto Starters

>Mega Venusaur is more of the same because there was literally nothing else you could do differently. You contrast with Gigantamax Venusaur, which looks almost nothing like Venusaur because there was nothing you could naturally change
>Charizard only gets either slightly more details in its Y design or is redesigned into complete edgelord shit for X or Gigantamax with the flaming wings. This is because it's a very plain design and only appeals to the "innate, cool" factor of dragons. The bastardization of Dragonite to prop up Charizard is what keeps this fucker relevant
>Blastoise is a fundamental failure of expansion on its concepts in its Mega which is why it doesn't regain the supposedly iconic "previous form traits" lots of Megas include in their designs. It loses its iconic Hydro Pump/Cannon moves for dogshit like Water Pulse and Dark Pulse because it's a gimmickmon Game Freak doesn't give a fuck about. Gigantamax design is an improvement, but only works as a Gigantamax unlike the other two
>>
>>59161741
>Venusaur is a bad design
Why is it a bad design, redditspacer?
>>
>>59161426
A monster looking like a monster? Sounds correct to me
>>
>>59161426
I don't give a fuck about the design. Poison immunity in the early game is what automatically makes it #1, #2, and #3.
>>
>>59163218
When you realize that since Gen I predates gay ass abilities, they deliberately gave Venusaur Poison typing not to nerf it but literally make it immune to Poison in the early game, you realize how much smarter they were with what they had back then versus what they eventually became

Lots of later games are still balanced with the idea that "Rock is good defensively" and "Ice is a strong type"
>>
>>59162336
Not that anon, but it's the original troll final evo that "subverts expectations" by being repulsively ugly. There's a direct line from Venusaur to Toiletgatr.
>>
>>59163231
I'm playing Fire Red again right now, and you have no idea how happy I was to have been reminded that wild Geodude and Onix don't have Sturdy in them. The ability power creep was really the thing thar brought this franchise to shit long before dexcut.
>>
>>59161426
Not really
That's why the debate was only ever between Charizard and Blastoise, until decades later when salty bulbasaurfags tried to pretend it was always popular and there was more debate than there actually was.
It was the least liked by a landslide, and was ejected from western marketing for a reason.
The ratios would have looked more like 40 40 20, with Venusaur as the 20. Generously. Honestly 45 45 10 would not be unreasonable.
>>
>>59163231
Who knows if it was pure Grass to begin with or if it was always Grass/Poison before it became a starter. There wasn't a lot of Grass types made in the original 180 (I think Cactus was the only other one besides Tangela).
The Oddish/Bellsprout lines were made to replace wild Bulbasaurs so I'm inclined to believe it was always Grass/Poison before it became a starter, and it having Poison immunity for the early game was just a lucky coincidence.
>>
>>59163260
You can thank Game Freak for intentionally tanking Charizard and Blastoise's popularity by propping the former on a pedestal and trying to decry the latter for simply being Super Effective to Charizard to the point of making it the objective worst of the 3 by a landslide these days. Time was much kinder to Venusaur and Bulbasaur was always popular thanks to the anime. The only reason it didn't evolve was because the animators were too fucking lazy to try and animate a big fatass frog versus a generic dragon. Blastoise got hit with the same issue
>>
>>59163231
Poison type was actually decent in the main game because you barely had any psychic types to worry about besides Sabrina's gym. The only other time it was an inconvenience was Diglett Cave if you weren't fast enough.

Squirtards sure are besides themselves seeing Bulbasaur line outpace their lazy cartoon animal digimon in all metrics...
They can't cope...

Koga's Gym has more Psychic trainers than Poison trainers. If it weren't for the fact Venusaur was Grass, Giovanni's Gym would likely kick your ass too. There's enough sporadic Psychic trainers here and there to pose a threat, but Poison was generally more threatening due to the abundance of Weedle, Nidorans, Koffing, Grimer and Arbok fucking everywhere

I replayed Gen I pretty recently for the anniversary. You'd be genuinely surprised how many mons just jumpscare you with SE damage because some fucker just has to randomly have Confusion, Dig or Psychic. You see that shit more than Flamethrower, Ice Beam or even Thunderbolt which is Surge's signature move

Charizard can't even fly, his wings are way too small for his weight, fuck he even carries people on his back. I let it slide with charizard x, because it looks like a cool ghost with ripped wings and just levitates.
