>What is the worst looking official PMD sprite or portrait? Have any made you avoid using a Pokemon you normally like?
Marshtomp's sprites are so short that they make me want to delay evolution in rescue team until I can jump straight to Swampert.

>Has stepping on a trap ever accidently helped you in a dungeon? If never, what trap has ruined your runs the most?
Pitfall traps are just stairs if you have the right atitude (and you have trap seer or google specs).

>Most preferred gimmick in PMD hacks? (puzzles, gameplay style, etc.)
I enjoy needing to work alongside your teamates to take down the enemies and also having access to secondary terrain traversal. The dungeons are the only gameplay aspect I really care about, so any sort of gimmicky puzzle tends to detract from the experience for me.

>If the Kecleon merchants are so strong, why don't they just save the world themselves?
Because then there wouldn't be heroes to sell wares to. Think of the business!

>>Has stepping on a trap ever accidently helped you in a dungeon? If never, what trap has ruined your runs the most?
pokemon traps sometimes help with recruiting. i don't actively seek them out so i guess it's an accident when they happen
>>Most preferred gimmick in PMD hacks? (puzzles, gameplay style, etc.)
i don't play many hacks so i can't answer this question

>Has stepping on a trap ever accidently helped you in a dungeon? If never, what trap has ruined your runs the most?
I just did Meteor Cave in Rescue Team DX and I purposely detonated an explosive trap to get a few of the fake Deoxys out of my way without getting cucked by Pressure. The apple traps and the grudge traps are evil

Of course it isn't silly, his personality is obviously an exact match for mine and we love many of the same things (like our favorite spinda orders, favorite spots on the beach, favorite cuddling positions...). Here's some Clover Guild lost media! A short story I wrote for Vulpix-anon based on the art he made (on the left!) when I wanted to practice combat before writing Black & White. Pretty quick and it's a bit of my older writing style but I hope the Guild will enjoy it nonetheless!

If you didn’t enjoy your mandated NPC interactions you have no soul. Yes, I want to see Heracross make a friend. Yes, I want to see Sneasel learn to accept help from others. Yes, I want to re-establish base camps in untamed territory. If you want to participate in a dungeon with no interruptions that’s fine. As for Aegis Cave, the random drops for the stones sucked but it was an ancient ruin with Regis in it and you are racing a world renowned treasure hunting team. It is cool

Personally I'd want more special episodes, I think PMD's writing is at its best in those since they can all be more unique since they don't focus on the blank slate protag, and they allow for more carefully structured balancing even if Chunsoft completely fucked up there with Team Charm's episode. Honestly I wouldn't mind a Dragon Quest 4 or a Livealive-style anthology game where you swap casts every chapter, though it'd probably never happen since the self-insert hero is too integral to the series at this point.

I don't know what they were thinking having most of their movesets pick randomly from the levelup table. You can very realistically get a Lopunny with Baton Pass/Pound/Splash/Foresight. The fuck are you gonna do with this moveset?
>>
>>59172385
The Team Charm episode just feels the most lazy in general, by far the most forgettable one for me. I also think their theme is one of the worst songs in the game, which stands out since some of the other special episode songs are some of my favorites.

Explorers is widely considered the best game in the series. I started with Red Rescue Team on GBA and became obsessed. Explorers reinforced it. If you are used to playing modern pokemon then you could probably start with Rescue Team DX.
>>
>>59175877
Games really aren't all that hard, sometimes you will get screwed by rng but it isnt as malicious as other rougelikes. Game with the best graphics is Rescue Team DX, which is an updated version of the first game. Explorers of Sky is considered the best in series, its pixel graphics but is still nice to look at. Super is fun but has some questionable story descisions. Gates to Infinity is the black sheep of the series.

I have a new flash fic for you all, called "The Light of My Eyes".

Technically, it's not new. I wrote this more than a year ago and decided not to publish it, but now I changed my mind after chatting with some other anons. I edited it today, and Vaporeanon provided beta reading (thanks for the help), so I think it's ready to go.

This basically acts as an epilogue to Part 1 of "Learning to Fly", and takes place on the morning after Chapter 12. It also gives an in-universe explanation for Booker's new eye design (originally, they looked like normal Ribombee eyes, but I modified them last year to make him look a bit more unique).

Speaking of "Learning to Fly", this might be a good time to announce that I'm probably not going to write Part 2 of that story. I had plans and I even began writing, but it was giving me too much trouble, and it was shaping up to be a really time-consuming project, so I think it's best to not continue. Part 1 is complete, so at least the story has reached a decent stopping point. I apologize to anyone who was looking forward to the next part of Booker's quest. At some point, I'll write down a quick summary of my concepts for Part 2, so people can see what would have happened in the second half of the story.

With that out of the way, here is "The Light of My Eyes". I hope you enjoy reading it.

A Pokémon in lingerie must be absolutelygorgeus and heavenly on the eyes, especially if you have lots of straps, ribbons and lace.
I probably wouldn't make that my OC though because that would just be "my barely disguised fetish" which is bad writing. Unless you give him a full body cloak with the lingerie underneath.

very well off too, with cutting, sizing, and sewing all that fabric to fit a particular body shape
>>
On a different note, how would you store your items as an explorer/rescue team member?
Sling bag over one shoulder? I think this is the canon solution in EOS at least.
2 sling bags, one over each shoulder to somewhat even out the weight for better balance?
Or a backpack? This is the historical solution for explorers, but real explorers generally didn't fight a lot and backpacks are very cumbersome for fighting, speaking from experience. Also a backpack would make accessing items quickly in the heat of combat difficult so you should coupel it with a belt where you keep your important orbs, seeds and stuff to be easily accessible in a fight.
>>
The closest real life equivalent to seeds, berries and orbs are grenades, which soldiers wear on belts or harnesses I think, not in bags or backpacks.
>>
>>59199080
>he doesn’t keep grenades in his backpack
ngmi
>>
>>59199083
You can't really easily access items from your backpack in the heat of combat.
Soldiers use small grenade pouches on belts and chest rigs.
So I guess if I wanted to ever draw or write a Mystery Dungeon OC, I would give him a chest rig with his orbs, seeds and berries and maybe a backpack for backup gear and stuff like apples.
>>
File: file.png (829 KB, 1284x991)

A sling bag might be insecure if you're moving around a lot quickly, right? For bipeds, I think it would have to be paired with a belt anyway.

3 member exploration team, first 2 members are most geared and prepped for fighting carry at most a satchel with water and food, and a belt with seeds, berries, and orbs. 3rd is likely a larger mon with lots of endurance, carries a big backpack for hoarding all the items the team needs and finds in the journey. he attempts to attack from a distance or not at all, sometimes hiding between the stronger 2 if mons sneak up behind the team.
if you have to have only 2, have the larger (or stronger/more enduring one) carry a larger backpack, and the one more equipped for fighting go first and have just a belt and a sling.

They cut the dex and gates has no postgame. The entirity of Gates is set on one cost rather than an entire world map. It's the smallest and shortest game in the series and you mostly just do the main story, one short post game mission and the single 99 floor dungeon (no LV 5 reset) and you are done.
It's still a great game! Fuck da haters! It's just short and sweet.

Do you think Pokémon Mystery Dungeon would be easier solo without a partner?
Because your Partner and team mates are usually really retarded. For example if you get into a monster room, on a solo run you can do the classic roguelike thing and imediately get back into the corridor and then fight them one on one or stun the front one to block off the corridor for the others and run, but with a partner you have to swap place with him and then he will instantly start fighting 5 guys all on his own instead of getting outta there. And in general your partner won't ever disengage from combat even when outmatched and outnumbered. And they kinda don't care about walking headfirst into traps unless IQ is high enough.
It's a bit more like herding a pet and less like a partner.
Would help a lot if I could issue them commands, such as "Go to this spot", "attack this enemy", "disengage" and such, like in Caves of Qud and some other Roguelikes, besides just autistically disabling and enabling their moves each turn to pick the attack they do.
At least Super Mystery Dungeon let you shove your partners, so you can safely leave monster rooms like that.
It's quite paradox to me because you would think two guys are twice as strong as just one guy but I think solo is actually easier and definitively a lot more chill, except for bosses.
>>
>>59201093
In my original playthrough of Red Rescue team when I was a child, I went to most dungeons solo when I got to the post game. It gave me more room to recruit pokemon if I wanted to and I wouldn’t have other teammates using my reviver seeds.
>>
>>59201119
I sometimes picked up fodder mons during dungeon runs to use as disposable pawns and then instantly delete after finishing the dungeons.
It's cruel but it works.
>>
>>59201126
DX amplifies this by a ton. Having basically your own monster house as a team is one of the more interesting aspects of that game. Especially if you manage to recruit something with a roomwide affecting attack because they don’t need to worry about PP
>>
>>59201185
Would probably be fun having 8 Pokémon out, like running your own little Explorers guild, but in practice they would be a nightmare to herd and get them to NOT kill themselves.
>>
>>59201093
Bringin up moster houses as a reason against having a 2nd party member at all times is incredibly retarded given that you're giving up a numbers advantage for combat and PP management just to not be inconvenienced during the 5 or so times you'll find a monster house in the main story.

You say that they should add the comands you mention, but aparently tggeling moves and using the tactics already present in the game is too much for you? I get that more specificity in the tactics we have would be welcome, and that I don't know the minutia behind the commands you mention, but do we need a "disengage" command when you can tell them to "Get Away From Here" and then "Wait There" once they're in a safe location?
I get that runaway AI can be pretty retarded in PMD1 and 2, but they look in the direction they're about to excape once you exit the menu, so you can catch if they're about to goof and choose another tactic

About the Moster House Choke, you can tell your teamates to Get Away From here instead of swaping place with your partner, once you've got a free square to retreat to, take it. You even back up to the next room and 2v1 enemies. Sure, there's 1 turn where you're open, but unless you get unlucky with spawn, you wont have that many enemies adgacent to you.
Also you can just use one of the many orbs that neutralize large crouds of enemies.
>>
>>59201185
I hate how DX handles it because the Pokemon in the back keep getting killed by wild Pokemon and breaking off from the group. It’s a hassle to deal with that many Pokemon when I can only control my core team members.
>>
>>59201226
It's not just monster houses, though they are the biggest part.
But your partner generally doesn't like to disengage from combat if outmatched but fights to the death and also doesn't like repositioning to fight one on one when outnumbered.
But Partners also double your DPS and total HP for boss battles so maybe that's worth the hassle, it idk.
And Eevee is the only partner that is smart enough to disengage at low HP, but instead of sticking to you, the boss, he will just headlessly run around with no regard for anything and probably get killed even more.
In general, I kinda have issues with partners in roguelikes, but Pokémon seem especially dumb when it comes to this, even compared to Caves of Qud and DCSS allies.

>>59204011

>>
>>59204011

What I meant is that in game there's a mechanic for enemy pokemon holding an item and they can drop it or you can steal it with a move, but that in universe the item you get from the orb is one they wouldn't normally drop by being defeated or by having it get stolen. The in game logic is probably just so you can get an item from any pokemon even if technically they aren't supposed to be holding an item. It's just supposed to make the orb better than defeating them or using a stealing move. I guess an in universe explanation could be that it's an item that's protected better than any others. Like maybe they somehow have a secret stash on their person or a secret bag for that one item.

Would a perfect team even matter? You can max your stats if you really want to, and there aren't that many non lv reset, engame dungeons that are much of a challenge. Only Zero Isle North and Super's Destiny Tower come to mind, and as long as you just have mons that can hit with ranged moves, the ocasional team support and in the case of super, partners with line of sight moves who can assist during combat in corridors.

Most chalenge dungeons already restrict you to only one party member, and the once that don't have less harsh restrictions overall. Like, no one's gonna meta game a team of 4 for Zero isle West when you can shove 2 pages of revs up your ass.
>>
>>59204815

Mobile Scarf just makes you starve to death in long dungeons, or even short dungeons if you don't stack up 10 big apples.
I do not like it.
>>
>>59208021
Smeargle could sketch it, but if you're creating the prefect moveset for your smeargle, a move that does random set damage and may heal the opponent instead wouldn't be on your list.
>>
lol I have no idea which teams/moves are overpowered or underpowered because I only ever use the guys I like and feel attached to like a lot of starter/partner/Dialga in EOS (They are the main characters after all and who you playin Treasure Town), Absol, Mawile, and a lot of Emboar + Virizion in GTI and Super.
That's just howI enjoy my games.
>>
>>59208024
Well, just use the Movile Scarf movement for everything that doesn't cause belly depletion. The mobile scarf lets you both walk and attack trough corners. This means that, in coridor, you can use your entire movepool to hit an enemie that's at the corner of a turn or intersection, you can gain distance on those enemies by cutting corners, where they'd have to take the turns in two turns, and if you enter a wall and inmediately take off the movile scarf, it warps you somewhere else at the expense of a slight bit of belly.

Admitidly, party members would get in the way when doing most of that stuff, but if you're going solo, it's really strong.
>>
>>59208123
Just what you'd expect. Strong room wide moves, broken status moves like spore/dark void, moves that boost you team's movement speed/your speed + some stat boosts and multy hit moves.

What are your thoughts on status moves like Sword Dance, Ninetales, Calm Mind , Iron defense, etc?
I generally don't deem them worth a slot because you need to refresh them on each floor and dungeons tend to have 10 to 30 to 99 floors AND they disappear after stepping on a wonder tile to recover stat reductions from enemies.
They are probably good for bossfights, but bossfights are maybe 5% of Mystery Dungeon and you can just abuse your items.
>>
>>59208213
>Ninetales
*Nasty Plot
Copy paste fail because I can't remember the english names
>>
>>59208213
When you're choosing what moves to use, you wan't acces to strong STAB options, good range, an overall good amount of PP and maybe some coverage if a particular type fucks you over.

Those criteria you can cover with around 3 moves, maybe even 2. Having 4 offensive moves is redundant, and you'd rather have unique utility from a status move. In which case, those stat raising moves you mentioned are pretty good. You can use one each floor, and although you may end up running out of pp on them, by that time you'll likely have to use a max elixir sooner or later (Also, at least for Sky, those moves you mention have a good amount of PP, Nasty plot even has 20 PP, more than most strong moves. Swords dance is the only low one at 7)

This is specially the case with defence drops in the games with move linking. You get to lower an enemies defence right as you strike them. Also, defence stat increases and decreases are about 3 times as potent as offence stat changes, and Screech quartes the the defence stat of a targer.

Even if you don't use them, what pokemon and moves are strong should be apparent from just playing. You can tell from fighting Driflims in dungeons that both Drifflim and Omnious Wind are strong, without a need to give them a try.

Though some options, like trained up Smeargle or Dark Void, you won't find in the enemies.

Would the stab buff actually make the heal increase too, or is that always a set amount of healing?
>>
>>59211407
I think STAB only affects damage moves.
Heal moves are perentage based with some healing 50%, some 100% and Present being 25%.

I've been feeling the desire to play PMD again after a decade or so; can't remember a thing about it. Should i play the games "chronologically" or something you guys recommend for my "first time"?

If you're going to play trough all the games, I recomend you start with either Rescue Team or Explorers of Sky (there's no real reason to play Time or Darkness over Sky). Which one of the two? Up to you. Rescue Team's main story is the shortest, but in return, there are plenty of postgame quests tied to getting all of the legendaries in the game. The main story of Sky is longer, and the postgame, as much as I'm torn on its overall quality and Sky Aditions, it's also lenghty.

Then I would recomend you pick gates. The story is the strongest, the gameplay is the weakest, with plenty of anoying things, like the slow text speed, the anoying dungeon generation and the slow progress of the paradise.

Lastly Super, mostly because of the numerous cameos from characters in prior games you'll find in side missions. It does get critiziced here plenty, but I find its gameplay plenty engaging, and the story has some good points. The postgame is also pretty lengthy if you ish to 100% it

As for Red/Blue Rescue Team vs DX, though the story is the same, the gameplay is the most diferent between games. In my opinion you should first pick and later on loop around to the second one. (Red and Blue Rescue Team are equivalent. I'd choose Blue for the extra buttons and minor use of the top screen)

As for gameplay: Red Blue Rescue Team and Explorers play similar, with Rescue Team feeling more rudimentary. DX and Super also play similary, what encapsulates it most for me is the existance of wands. And Gates is sort of in between, mut leaning more towards Explorers in terms of gameplay and systems.

Overview:
First play Sky. If you like the gameplay system, follow it with Blue Rescue Team, But if you think you'd preffer something more modern, try DX. You could then continue with Gates, but if you don't really care about the cameos on Super, I'd consider that one fist. Continue then with Super/Gates, and lastly, loop around to the version of Rescue Team you didn't play.

does explorers of sky have any online features that people are still using?

>does explorers of sky have any online features
Yes
>that people are still using?
No
It's a 20 year old DS game.
Nintendo doesn't care about old games.
>>
>>59216107
I think all of the features can just be used/generated by wonder codes instead. If you post a rescue code here you will probably get some help, or just cheat and use one of the generators if you want

>If you post a rescue code here you will probably get some help
That's actually a really fun idea for when I decide to play the games again.
And in return I could even do rescue missions for other people.

I just played Rogue Rescue Team and had to make it through a dungeon full of Ghost Pokémon using Spite and walking through walls and Shedinja with suspiciously high attack damage with no Max Elixirs in sight, alongside my retarded partner.
I only made it through with sheer luck and determination.

The anon who made the character draws a lot, and people like to draw their own characters. Same thing with Kiyo, around half of the art of him on the booru is by the anon who made him
