You've never seen her before but you swear she seems familiar in a way you can't place. Who the hell is it?She's the player's introduction to properly-constructed hyper offense mons. They're all Fighting-types, but they all have a way of dealing massive damage very quickly. This also serves the secondary purpose of teaching players some rudimentary defensive counterplay. Will you use your newly-taught weathers to buff the defensive stats of your Ice or Rock Pokémon? Do you have a Ghost lurking somewhere? None of Juno's team sports Guts, have you learnt the value of Scald burns from Atano? Giving players more information on what sort of team archetypes and role compressions they value over others is the point of Juno's Gym.

Fundamentally this Gym battle is basically mirroring a Wolfey video, and should thus seem familiar to many casual fans of the franchise. It is a teambuilding stress test. Do you know how to read? Tall ask for many Pokémon fans, I know. Do you remember what Abilities do? Have you thought about when to pop your Z-Move? Does your team structure support your Mega? What implications are there in one Pokémon over another exhausting its Terastallization? If it's not clear by now, the "vanilla" Omven region is built to be played like a normal PKMN game, just with more difficulty and no special rules like Nuzlockes. It's, to me, the middle ground between like B2W2 and Champions. (A deliberate choice, given the geographic placement of Chicago between Vegas and NYC.)

The dynamic between the Tao trio reflects this, as going for excessive purity of form causes a void to be left behind. Omven is a region defined by its diversity of thought and tradition. The wider cast in my mind beyond the leaders and e4 is explicitly more homogenous and “white” looking (despite not being white myself) precisely to illustrate that mirroring. Everybody’s got their own vices. You see, part of the reason that I didn't give my character a Kingambit was that I theorized that it actually would be worse in writing compared to the game. In a vacuum, where all moves are "100% accurate" unless otherwise noted, Kingambit should be (and is) highly viable. But on an actual field, where there's range and space between Pokemon, isn't Kingambit somewhat of a liability against anything faster? 50 Speed is not doing you any favors in getting up close for a Sucker Punch, theoretically speaking you would be quite easily Focus Blasted or Flamethrowered to death. I think mobility would probably make Speed an even more important factor in Pokemon battling when written because Pokemon can position themselves to attack or dodge attacks.
