Just finished every mainline Pokemon game and this is my ranking. Only had played Sapphire, HeartGold and Platinum as a kid
Good taste, I pretty much agree with everything.
ruby/sapphire an entire tier above fr/lg is an odd choice. But i'm willing to support this chart if only because you put ZA last. Easily my least favorite mainline game
>>59175413Maybe I do have a bit more nostalgia for Sapphire after all. Its just that I don't really enjoy the FRLG version of Kanto all that much. It feels too sterile in a way.
>>59175353Old game good, nu game bad
>GOATo on topAs it fucking should be.
>>59176801I played Gen 1 and 2 for the first time but its just something about them that's hard to put in words that puts them above the rest even if they are less polished than a Platinum for example.
>>59176986It's because gens 1 and 2 (and their remakes) are the "classic" Pokemon games.Gen 3 established a lot of the design tropes that would define Pokemon from that point forward. From that point forward, every region was starting mostly from scratch, no persistent world, new mons to fill in all the niches (new fossils, new pikaclones, new route 1 shitmons (yeah Johto had these but they were used in tandem with the 151), etc), a new criminal organization and a plot revolving around them and the boxart legendary, the Ghost and Dragon types were no longer "exclusive" and the Dark type was no longer reserved for rare endgame mons, etc. The design philosophy for the Pokemon themselves also started to shift a lot. Gen 2 and Gen 1 Pokemon blend pretty seamlessly together (Gen 2 did have a more cutesy aesthetic overall, but they still blend in nicely with mons like Pikachu and Clefairy). The remakes mostly kept this design philosophy intact, so I choose to also count them as "classic Pokemon." The more modern design philosophy is of course much more sustainable long term, and has been used to great effect in games like Emerald, but a certain essence was lost with the shift in design philosophy that's a bit hard to describe. I think Kanto and especially Johto had a certain appeal to them that has yet to be matched, and if I had to put my finger on them, it's the more "grounded" world. The plot of the first two games isn't much beyond "stop team rocket, challenge the league, and explore this neat world along the way," but it doesn't really need to be. The "classic" Pokemon games, to me, feel like a world first and a video game second, if that makes any sense.
>>59176801True
Out of curiosity, are people playing on OG hardware, backward compatibility, or emulator?
>>59177340What's wrong with Emerald?
there's no way anyone thinks rse are better than oras
>>59177498oras is fucking dogshitrse isnt
>>59177482>sword and shit in S tierBait used to be believable
>>59177498I don't like nugen visuals or mechanics, so yes I do prefer the originals. Better learnsets and reusable TMs would be nice but I'll take gen 3 over any of the later gens.
>>59177554it's like he had a really decent list and then he just had to throw swsh in S, bdsp in A, lgpe in A, and scavio in Bliterally everything else i either outright agree with or can justify. like yes, HGSS is the best one, yes, Emerald and Platinum are the runners up, Crystal is phenomenal, SuMo and BW are kind of mediocre, PLA is dogshit, and so on
>>59175353Decent list anon
>>59175353Scarlet/violet at cThe game that gave us flashbacks of n64The game with woke agenda so bad that even a pokemon was made gayThe game without a championShit list
Here we go
>>59177473Putting the contests in the endgame instead of the regular game.
>>59177340That has to be bait.
