Why is poison so weak offensively They couldn't have given it something else to be strong against like Fighting?
>>59176114It should be strong against Water desu. Waterfags have had it too good for too long.
poison in RPGs has always been the anti-unga bunga type, it's about debuffs and DoT not press the strong attacks
>>59176131This. Poison is about DoT.If anything they should be more defensive. There should be something where poison pokemon take less damage from poisoned pokemon for example. Or maybe have an additional resistance.
>>59176128Unrelated but water is way too good, I dont get it.
>>59176254It wasn't that big of a deal in Gen I because Water was usually only good against shitmon types like Rock and Fire. Ground already had a separate weakness in Ice that was much more relevant than Surf was. They had good resistances, but Grass and Electric weren't deliberately nerfed like they would end up getting in later games as being "support" bullshit instead of as offensive threats. Really Grass and Electric NEVER getting good handouts compared to Fire and Water is the main reason Water ended up getting so good>Fire/Rock/Ground are dominant offensive threats>Water nukes them all>Water has mediocre weaknesses in Grass (no good variety in offense, tons of weaknesses such as Ice which Water types love to have) and Electric (Physical Electric is a legitimate punchline)Never changing the type chart is the core reason when oldshitmon types started getting better tools, they started becoming MUCH better than what was originally intended. Water was probably seen as "balanced" because in-game it's legitimately the only necessary type to beat the game thanks to Surf, given Cut/Rock Smash/Strength have very widespread accessibility while Surf is only learned by Water types or oddball stuff like Rhydon and Linoone. The fucked part is the balance was already as horribly skewed as early as Advance. If ANYTHING made the Phys/Spec split, it was 100% shit like Calm Mind Suicune or KyogreeBut yes, Poison would be a fine enough type to add to Water's weaknesses. It would give Poison an edge over Steel, for one thing
>>59176114Poison being super effective against Water would make Poison way too good, unless they also made Ghost immune to Poison or something like that
Poison has literally never been better. The only reason it wasn't the worst type in gen 1 was because bug was literally bugged (and had no moves). These days not every grass mon is dual type poison like back then, and there was also fuck all fighting moves to actually resist back then too. Now fairy mons are fucking busted which buffs poison.I would just like the poison status to be useful for anything outside of retarded stalling singles battle strats.
>>59177201>Burn cuts Atk>Par cuts Speed>Frostbite cuts Sp.A but Game Freak is too retarded to put this in mainline/Champions for some fuckass reasonWhat should poison cut? Maybe one of the defenses? Or both? Like anons said, in traditional RPGs Poison is typically the debuff element. Crippling a Pokemons defenses when it's poisoned would open up new strategies.
>>59177209Defenses. You’re weak and sick from poison.
>>59177209While I would like a secondary effect on Poison, the fact that Badly Poisoned is also a status and the games have been designed around that for so long it would start presenting too many problems. Like, imagine if there was a hazard that caused every Pokemon that gets switched in to get burned and lose their attack? That's layer 1 Toxic Spikes now.
>>59177201>>59177209>>59177606I would make it so that any poisoned pokemon is considered a secondary/tertiary Poison type.
>>59177646>poison the opponent >make your next poison attacks less effective Brilliant plan.
>>59177209>>59177593>huh? poisoned always cut your defense...>look it up, it never diddid I just fucking gaslight myself for 20+ yearsit just made sense that it would since all the other non-stun conditions lowered a stat
>>59176114They gave it Fairy and then immediately scaled back by giving every Fairy type Psychic coverage and Psychic or Steel typing
>>59176114It's weak because it's a defensive type. Or at least, I think that was the intention. It doesn't help that everybody and their dog can learn toxic. Poison being the stall type was laughable as early as gen 1 even ignoring the dominance of psychics.
>>59176114Just get rid of Steel too
Fix toxic. Make only a select few Pokemon be able to use it. Every single Pokemon in the game being able to learn Toxic is retarded.
>>59178519They already did
>>59178519I mean Koga explained it pretty clearly, it’s actually an ancient ninja spell known as a jutsu that’s pretty easy for anyone to learn as long as they don’t predate its invention like Magearna
>>59176252what resists would you give Poison?
>>59179086Fight, Grass, Fairy, Dragon,Water,Bug
>>59179110Anything to take Water down a notch
>>59179086I would probably give it resistance to Water or perhaps Dark. I think Water needs to be resisted more (compare the three Water resists - Water, Grass, Dragon - to Fire's four and Grass' six. The explanation as to why would be the viscous quality of poison's various manifestations. If we instead go with Dark, the explanation would be that Poison is unlikely to fall for underhanded and cruel tactics that type employs.
>>59177209>What should poison cut?HP
Is there anyone that even likes the poison type?
>>59179560It also doesn't help that 2 of the 3 water resistances are weak to ice.
>>59179645Of course, poison has some of the coolest mons. The type has always felt a bit underpowered to me though.
Meant to post pic
>>59176254Water and Electric are GF's favorite babies. Psychic took the heat in early gens, Dragon took the heat in 4-5, Fairy took the heat 6-9. Yet those 2 will always fly under the radar.
>>59177209Just defense to make physical attackers more relevant. They already get fucked by burn and intimidate.
>>59179711>mfw water type that learns freeze dry
>>59179560Dark doesn't need any further nerfs.
>>59179735Where's Galarian Slowpoke/king?
>>59179735I am still fucking mad that Gengar lost levitate. It makes no fucking sense for it not to levitate.
>>59179876>Where's Galarian Slowpoke/king?Doesn't look like that's been updated since Gen 7. I couldn't find an updated equivalent image. :(
