Regional forms ruined the Alola dex. There are only two new Dark types (one is a starter and the other is an Ultra Beast) and only one new Ice type.

Their names even sounding similar in both Jap and English. I do think the other anon was right that its to retire the idea. Many moons ago there was another thread on this topic where an anon posited a conspiracy theory I sorta agree. That regional forms argue that you need to have both the regional and base form of that mon in the game. Convergents basically allow GF to be a bit lazier and only include one of them if they want.
