Unova's Pokedex didn't deserve the hate. There's some shitty designs but there's some really good ones too, same as any generation.

Gen 5s biggest issue are the blatant recolors like the monkey trio and kamis. Other than that it's a very great dex.

It's because doing so made a lot of the new ones repetitive and annoying and not feel special similar to Gen 1 but without the novelty Gen Wun gets for being the first. This made Gen 5 feel rehash-y compared to other gens.(Oh look i get to run into WOObats instead of ZUbats now!!! WOW!!!!)If they had some old mons like what gen 3 and 4 did, the encounters coulda been more varied and the new mons would feel more special rather than humdrum and alien at the same time.
