I don't even think stadium would work today, the announcer and minigame noises live rent free in my brain. Stadium felt more monumental at the time because we only had Red and Blue graphics on the gameboy to go off. Seeing your pokemon in 3D was cool. I personally, ONLY had stadium. No gameboy, just the n64 and an empty transfer pak. I had to pretend my pokemon were leveling up, wasn't as fun. Even as just a standalone experience, the game functioned pretty well as an early pokemon showdown with the various cups you could participate in against the CPU. I always wanted to transfer my winning pokemon in stadium to a gameboy game, sigh.
