imagine if they made GOOD unova remakes (/sequels?) and they had the battle subway not only be expanded but also functional, where you can access more areas of the map potentially earlier with the only requirement being beating stronger trainers whenever you go through it. Only downside is that it would be trivialized by Fly, but I guess they could just remove that. I think it would be very cool to make it fast travel with a battle as the cost.
