The whole point of gating Stone Evolutions was to nickel and dime you into using the Time Machine so you could trade the mons to RGBY, go to Celadon, evolve them with a stone bought from there, and then trade them back.
Gen 2 was the exact point Pokemon became solely about the money because of how much of an unexpected smash hit it became.
>>
>>59194992
>all gen one pokemon
If I really wanted to use them so bad, I could just play a KANTOOOOOOOOOO game

Johto is legit insane
The game is so fucked that legit criticism reads like blatant trolling. Maybe that's why it avoided criticism for more than a decade. A high rated game with tons of cool new features like day and night.
>Just because you were too lazy to grind 30 levels for a move on Togepi, doesn't mean it's bad!
But it is.
They made a monster catching game with 90% shit. Endless trash. Trash handed to you as if to say "use this!". The secret of the Unown, this pokemon with one move. Can you find out what the secret is? Spoiler alert, the secret is it's a piece of shit.

Babymons. Mons that can't evolve without trades or appear low level in the endgame. Then in the middle of a sea of garbage, something like the OPPOSITE box legendary at level 70 shows up. Because who the fuck knows. A higher fucking level than the actual box legendary. What were they on when they balanced this shit?

Johto was made out of spite because Sugimori was upset about not being able to draw Quinty getting raped.
>>
>>59194992
Your random trainers that called you to give you stones?
>>
>HGSS still has dogshit level up movesets
Its retarded that flaaffy is stuck with thundershock for so long.
>>
>>59195231
Isn't that just in Crystal and HGSS.
>>
>>59195198
>the OPPOSITE box legendary at level 70 shows up
This was actually a bad thing in GSC because it meant it didn't know its signature move. Sure, it was strong as fuck, but it wasn't peak performance. It's like Mewtwo without Psychic.
The only way you could remedy this was to later buy Stadium 2 and use that particular Lugia/Ho-Oh as an unregistered cartridge import during a no-suspension marathon of the Pokemon League + Champion in the Gym Leader Castle, wherein you were then granted a Move Reminder opportunity.

You need a soul to appreciate Johto.
>>
>>59195353
But not a brain
>>
>>59195384
The most brainless cattle can appreciate the majesty of the world but a soulless jew can only scheme “how can I ruin this”

Aeroblast is a shit move for Lugia, tho.
>>
>>59195535
Not really? It gets Curse to make it hit harder.

I am going to put on my serious hat and take this seriously. But for a real discussion I would like to have is what hurts Johto (and later Hoenn and Unova too I feel) is their fear and not understanding of a good balance. I feel that the reason that so many Johto gym leaders dont use Johto mons or why gen2 mons are locked to post-game Kanto is a strange foresight into genwunning. I think they kept the new mons as a sort of treat or a carrot and stick to get people to discover them but played it too safe feeling fans would prefer the old mons so they appear more often at the cost of the actual new mons being hard to find. This I am still convinced about.

When Ruby and Sapphire came out they sorta saw this as a mistake as they clearly shove the new mons onto you a lot more though old mons are still in the game. I dont know if confirmed but gen3 was going to be a soft-reboot sorta like gen5 eventually came but they smartly decided against that. Older pokemon are harder to come by but they still exist in gen3.

Gen5 they dropped the ball as while it was bold to make it a reboot forcing people to use nothing but old mons and a limited new 152 or so dex pissed a lot of people off. BW2 has the perfect dex as it has around 300 mons and a good mix of old mons mixed with the new but I will always think BW dex and mons as doggy-doodoo mostly since its forced.

After gen5 it never really mattered as starting there is the 3D era so they tend to spew all the options to you that we see continue on into the switch era where the first route has so many mons and sometimes several from different gens.

Bellsprout was going to have a new evolution that you can use before Kanto, but they cut his evo for some last minute single stage shitmon no one cares about
>>
>>59194992
There's phone calls but yeah. Just embrace the fact that you are emulating an old game and just hack the stones and trade evos in.
>>
>>59195599
Nah the intention with gen2, and Johtofags are actually right on this point- they wanted to complement the existing world and characters. Not dilute them. Only Black/White 2 ever did this again and it had no new mons in it at all. GSC is to RBY as BW2 is to BW.
The character of gen1 and his rival were prodigies and the heroes. The villains were the only villains. Mewtwo is the strongest Pokemon.
Tajiri did not get all his ideas into the first game, but with Gold and Silver the world and global phenomenon called "Pokemon" is finally finished as he imagined. Ruby and Sapphire had to make up a new story to keep going.

The original vision is realised. Perhaps a too well. Because they went too far in places.
>The monsters were meant to be newly discovered.
>So yin and yang. New mons and old must complement each other. Dark type helps balance Psychic.
Actual result? Shitmons in random caves and babies.
>Villains were defeated three years ago
>So an afterstory. An epilogue to Team Rocket without touching on Giovanni.
Actual result? Nameless failures with no satisfying story arc.

The level curve is a different issue but ties into this.
>>
would it kill them to do legends johto
>>
>>59195855
>game freak shilling johto
yet, it would kill them.
>>
>>59195855
Kitakami was your Johto revisit. Look forward to Legends: Alola and Legends: Paldea after Legends: Galar!
>>
>>59195565
How many curses would you need to KO skarmory. lmao
>>
>>59195859
>>59195861
lets go marill and snubbul switch 2 exclusives late 2027
>>
>>59195847
Yeah. The level curve is basically trying too hard to make everything "lore accurate." Same with Kanto being a glorified boss rush, since they're all fighting you at full strength, and Janine the rookie being Johto-tier by comparison. Team Rocket being dogshit and useless fits with the lore, but it doesn't make for exciting gameplay.

It was to promote using Mystery Gift where you could get them pretty easily.

>>59195137
No, they already had the Starters/Legends/Fossils which were only in Gen 1 or NYCPC. The stones were in Mystery Gift
>>
>>59195599
Tajiri just viewed the franchise and world very differently than Masuda
>>
>>59196071
Mystery Gift and Crystal Phone Calls are also RNG timegates that expect you to get lucky. They very obviously intended Time Machine to be the easiest solution to the "I don't have this stone for this mon" problem unless you unironically want to wait weeks on end just to finally get the stone you want from Mystery Gift or for DICKS to call about having the stone you want.
>>
>>59196270
Mystery Gift scales with the amount of friends you have. If you lived in Tokyo and did it 20 times with your friends at school you'd get a stone or two, do that every day for a week and you're good
>>
>>59196492
You've clearly never used the mechanic before or you'd know you can only use Mystery Gift five times a day. That's five rolls a day to hit the random chance for the Rare Pool, and then the random chance for the exact stone you want.
Again. Faster to just use the Time Machine since if we're using the context that you have obscene availability options on a daily basis, you can expedite the process by trading to your copy of RGBY with a friend's Gameboy, running to Celadon, buying the stone(s) there, evolving, and then trading back.
