"Breeding" for good IVs and nature is the exact opposite of what I would imagine as a good time so I stuck to using my severely underpowered mons that I actually caught playing naturally. Running back to the Pokécenter after 3 trainer battles is agonizing and a waste of time. The best tactic is usually still just using a high power super effective STAB move. You can pull up some cool stuff with encore, disable, conditions like burn and setting up walls and sweepers but that usually is a bad strategy because taking damage is BAD and healing is limited to prohibitively expensive potions or the Pokécenter so you will generally just want to hit high power stab super effective moves before you get hit yourself. Winning didn't make me feel like a badass because I just had the higher number and/or type advantage on my side and didn't actually skillfully out-think and out-maneuver my opponent. Losing didn't make me feel like it was my fault in any way because I just attacked an enemy who had higher numbers or the type advantage.Music was neat at least.It just made me wanna play Dragon Quest instead, a difficult but fair and honorable game.Maybe it's a blessing in disguise that the mainline games are trivially easy.I don't know how underage me enjoyed these games and even managed to beat a lot of them. Cute and lovable animals must be a really powerful thing.I should really just stick to my spinoffs, Mystery Dungeons, Ranger, shitposting on /vp/ and fan art.
