There isn't enough genuine changes to make the experience the definitive way to play Kanto, unless you REALLY care about getting all the starters, but even that's kinda become uninteresting if you know how to bug the older games to spawn them in, yourself

I get that third versions were punches in the gut to early buyers who got the two base versions first, but the current model of the base games + shitty DLC isn't that better, because the main games themselves aren't revised and brushed up to be polished into better experiences (like USUM or B2W2)It's just main game and DLC... and if the main game was clunky and lacking, then that's too bad.

They accidentally used Blue's script over RG's when localizing. There wasn't reverse engineering to be done because the only differences in Gen I were mon availability. Us getting the Blue engine was because they already bugfixed the game with Blue and when localizing the game they just preferred to give us games closer to the "original intent" than the third version which doesn't even have all the Pokemon anyway
