Should Pokemon reflect the era of the creators' childhood (the world as it was a few decades ago but with today's tech), or should it reflect the era of the current target audience (the world as it is now)?

brb gotta fap to this

My personal opinion:
There should be no zoomer v-tubers, tik tok brainrot or politics in Pokémon.
It should be a pure escapist fantasy into a better world where your only troubles are some fucks trying to take over the world with the box art legendary and muggers trying to beat you in a Pokémon battle and steal your money.

It should do both, which Pokémon kinda does. That's why it has such a wide appeal I think.
Focusing only on the past makes things stagnate. Kids and teenagers wouldn't like Pokémon if it didn't do things that are popular in the current era, which means there won't be any new Pokémon fans, which means the franchise would die out eventually. By reflecting the modern era, Pokémon managed to stay relevant for 3 decades. I don't think that would've been possible if they didn't do that.

There are no politics in Pokemon

my personal opinion? both is good c:
a blend of the past and the present works really well. just gotta get the simpler, quieter times, and then put some healthy amount of love and acceptance in the games c:

Both. Hard to do solely one or the other anyway

Why should technology in pokemon follow in lock step with technology in the real world? Their world has magic animals that dogfight for the love of the game but are also capable of straight up replacing technology we have in our lives.

Modern is fine, but I think it's important that there's a significant layer of abstraction that separates the Pokemon world from ours. Diamond/Pearl/Platinum feel "modern" in the sense that there's clearly advanced technology, but there's nothing that brings to mind a specific real-life epoch the way that the Rotom Phone and vtubers do. Like, Gen 4 would've been a lot lamer if instead of using the GTS to represent the Internet, they just had a fuckin Rotom Linksys that you used to trade Pokemon.

It should reflect only my childhood.

the problem is smartphones are inherently gay and uninteresting. too versatile, too ubiquitous. then, instead of its original personality as a mischievous ghost that controls manmade machines for fun/power they've decided rotom is better as an electronic shabbos goy so combining it with phones was a no-brainer. it's like a swiss army knife for any scenario that calls for an interface or communications. no more contacting mom on the landline through your pokegear, just facetime with your smartphone that also serve as your town map, pokedex, camera, online comms etc

and how ironic that sword & shield were the first games to have zero touchscreen functionality since 2004 despite player accessories being consolidated into a smartphone. none in scarlet and violet either

the former because 99% of the audience does not give a fuck about any of the mons outside the original 151

Pokemon 1000 should have been a bug.

Well, that's the most generic doujin I can imagine.
Extra points if the idea was to mock his size, but he then shows he has a double-barrel shotgun in there, to which he proceeds to "correct" the evil streamers.

Kicking Munnas is not political
>>
>>59208352
Domination loss is the generic doujin, it's just femdom but for losers uncomfortable with girls remaining dominant
>>
>>59208414
Anon that's not how femdom works.

Pokemon adapting to different times makes it feel like a growing world with an ongoing timeline.
It's just unfortunate when slop becomes source material. Like Rotom Smartphones...

For me, I prefer it being grounded closer to reality like Gen 1 was. Gen 1 still has futuristic tech based on 90s tech but the world itself is more like the 70s Japan that Tajiri grew up in (more nature than 90s Japan, gamblers and biker gangs roaming freely, more freedom for children).
I don't think you're wrong for wanting the abstraction but what made Pokemon special to me initially was that it's just a fictional version of our world but with magical creatures and Indian elephants, rather than a completely separate world that's just loosely inspired by ours (the world seen in SwSh, PLA, SV, ZA all felt completely alien to me despite having smartphones and e-celebs).
I wonder what would a game set in a 90s-like world but with 2020s tech be like?
