I think they just had a fun creative idea for a spinoff.
Then it blew up with normgroids and Pokémania 2 but shitty started and now every zoomer normgroid thinks it was the original Pokémon game.
It also probably ruined the franchise by showing TPC how much more profitable pay to win life service garbage is compared to Mystery Dungeon, Ranger or Rumble.

I've played Go on and off for years since it released and I haven't dropped a single dime on it. Yet I have multiple (S)Hundos and have a fuckload of shinies, some of which are now battling for me in Champions.
I personally don't see why you'd want to drop money on this game, but more power to the mongoloids that do, I guess?
