It was a terrible movie with no redeeming qualities, but was it really bad enough for them to give up on live-action entirely? It probably broke even, and I know Jew-wood doesn't give up that quickly especially for an IP this big

IDC About the post topic, your attempt at a pun was shit. Goy-lywood was right there.

>>59222706
that doesn't roll off the tongue either.

Defective Pikachu.

>no redeeming qualities
I thought Ryan Reynolds was pretty funny.

It's one of the highest grossing video game movies. No reason it shouldn't have gotten some sort of immediate follow-up. I know they also announced a live-action show that would have been closer to the game storyline and/or the anime so maybe attention was put on that but that also seems to be stuck in development.

They really should just have had an underdog trainer making his way up through the leagues to the top ala Rocky or other sports movies. Have some of the legendary mystery elements as subplots for later stories and Team Rocket as the villains. Have Brock, Misty and Ash/Red or some new OCs with a similar dynamic or arc. Fix up some of the desings and I think it would have been a lot more popular.

>>59222703
maybe it would've done better if they didn't have a muttoid as the protagonist

Hebrewood just don't know what to do with the IP. The Detective Pikachu movie literally disavows of the franchise's core, capturing and battling Pokemon, so what else is there? The movie didn't even leave itself open for a sequel, pic related.

It would have been bashed if it showed a full trainer journey in movie length.
>>59223424
Here on /vp/ that was criticized ever since the movie came out.

Hard disagree. The climax was dogshit but the visuals were mostly kino.

the nice brown eyes and slightly bringing back the white belly are choices that make me happy. They also went with really nice shapes for the head and eyes

Why? There are tons of Pokemon animated movies and the show itself (which was readapted in movie format in I Choose You). The trainer storyline is what audiences know and understand about Pokemon most of all.

Treating it like a sports movie would be the most palatable way to make it work for general people for sure
Like >>59227189 said, people associate the franchise with the trainer becoming champion story

The ashnime lasts more than 2 hours.

That isn't the full journey, ash doesn't win the league there.
>>
>>59227234
It doesn't need to adapt the ENTIRE story in one movie. It can literally just be an underdog who battles his way up through a few increasingly more challenging gyms or maybe has to face his rival at the end. Doesn't even need to be Ash. It can just be an OC like in every Pokemon game. My point is that general arc is easily adaptable because its just a sports movie with Pokemon.
>>
No actress is beautiful and majestic enough to play live-action Cynthia
>>
>>59227250
I can see that

Movie 1:
>First timer Pokemon trainer struggles but wins a few badges and beats the rival from his town (maybe a kid that used to bully him or something idk). Some hints at legendary Pokemon or Mewtwo or something

Movie 2:
>Trainer has improved, winning more badges, have a legendary Pokemon story focus while he works his way up and meets new friends

Movie 3:
>Trainer has to face the elite four while also contending with a larger legendary storyline
>>
>>59222703
I liked it.

That's not a full trainer journey. We're discussing what >>59223157 said.
>>
>>59227283
see >>59227257

This is how the trainer journey could work.
>>
>>59227415
Those are three movies.
>>
>>59227257
it sounds like it would work for a tv show, but not a movie.
>>
>>59227257 what >>59227420 said. You don't want a theatrical release that requires you see a previous movie first in 2026 when streaming exists. It's just less convenient and more of a box office gamble
