>>59224778The name "Meowth" got used a bit in Japan back then for that "hip and cool American" feel. "Nyarth" and "Meowth" also map to each other enough that nips can easily read it as an Englishization of Nyarth, while something like "Jessie and James" wouldn't be understandable, hence the use of "Musashi and Kojiro" in picrel.
