Ruby and Sapphire were originally intended to only feature Gen III Pokémon. How do you think that would have gone, especially given the fact there was no access to Pokémon of earlier gens until FRLG?

Going by gen 5: poorly.
>>
>>59233444
I would have been more interested in RS back in the day if they did that
>>
>>59233453
I think it would have been fine
Gen 3 is early enough that a shift like that would have probably worked, in addition to the whole no transfer thing would have cemented it as a "brand new generation." Gen 5 was far enough along that people were used to returning mons, and the roster was trying too hard to be Kanto 2

I was 11 in 2004 and got Emerald. I was upset that I could not trade from gen 2 like I could with gen 1 to 2 so I could bring my pokemon friends with me.

Post continued: FRLG almost made up for it but the National Dex was annoying to get and some of us didn't know how due to lack of info. Internet sharing of info wasn't as common. It was basically just GameFAQS. The real bullshit was how to catch 'em all, you needed the GameCube games of Colosseum and XD too.

Going by gen 5: amazingly.

Emerald didn’t come out till 2005 ur larp failed

This isn't Twitter dude use the whole post
>>
>>59233444
Shit. Gen 3 mons are terrible while Unova mons actually look good.
>>
>>59233444
Could've only worked if the returning Pokémon were postgame or there was a way to transfer your GSC Pokémon upward back then.

>off by one year
Obviously he just misremembered lmao

didn't know it was opposite day as well as labor day

A lot more repeat teams. During gen 3, like in gens 1 and 2, they still doubled up on pokemon/ pokemon from the same line regularly when they lacked pokemon to support a type. See Phoebe, Glacia, and Drake. Honestly, I don’t think it’d change much.
Roxanne would just use nosepass and probably.
Brawly would probably just have two meditite instead of one.
Watson could just use plusle and minun before manectric
Flannery could just use numel, underleveled camerupt, torkoal
Norman is fine as is
Winona just needs to lose honorary hoenn bird skarmory for a swablu or something
Tate and Liza are fine or could just get a claydol/ grumpig
Wallace and Juan are fine since they have wailord/ relicanth/ ludicolo to replace things with.
It also helps that aqua/ magma already have near zero team diversity.

Since everyone is bringing up BW, they had a similar problem, but they instead mostly limited pokemon team size. See gyms maxing out at three pokemon, having no team admins, N just using what was on the route, and the elite four having four pokemon. Even then, they sometimes fell into old habits with drayden/ Iris using fraxure and haxorus.

Brown detected LMAO

It all makes sense now that the Unova shitposter is brown

I posted and the thought of more to add afterward. 4chan doesn't let you edit.

I was remembering the Japanese release date.

Imagine if gen 1 and 2 mons just didn't exist in the gen 3-9 ecoysytem.
No shilling, no CHARIZAAAARD starter in XY, just all Pokémon except gen 1 and 2.
>>
>>59233597
People who malded about that were always stupid. It's a new fucking system, before the DS. Of course it doesn't connect backwards. Should my NES connect to my Gamecube?
>>
>>59233444
>Ruby and Sapphire were originally intended to only feature Gen III Pokémon
That was never true. The original plan was only 28 pokemon, with
>Wobbufett
>Pichu line
>Marill and Azumarill
>Ponyta line
being among the ones suggested. They then bumped it up to 67 and dumped most of these to Super Rod and Safari Zone encounters.

>Watson could just use plusle and minun before manectric
It's weird they didn't just give him Manectric to begin with. We know they cut Manectic's evo, but they didn't think to give one to the Electric Gym Leader at all? It makes Wattson stand out as the laziest Gym Leader design in all of Hoenn

Flannery isn't much better. If she didn't have Torkoal, her team would be just shitpiles. Her and Wattson's teams are so bad they were changed in ORAS, which had relatively faithful team comp even if the moves were all changed

Switching from the original 150 right after Pokemania to only the gen 3 fursonas and jobmons on top of the complete separation from the previous regions and not being to trade across from those regions would have been too jarring and outright killed the series for good. Keeping some older mons in the early game at least allowed some connection to the Pokemon golden era to keep people hooked.

The 3DS connects to the DS, the Wii U connected to the Wii and the Switch 2 connects to the Switch 1, what's your point? Before Pokémon there really weren't any games that would benefit from somehow being able to physically link together to a newer game for a newer platform and reportedly GF did want to figure it out but likely didn't have the time to and locked obtaining more old Pokémon behind remakes and GC spinoffs.
>>
>>59233444
pokemon would have died in gen 3
i would be okay with it
>>
>>59233444
How could you have a pokemon game without caves full of geodude and zubat?
