as a kid he was my favourite one but nowadays Venusaur is my favourite and Charizard is kinda lame
Venusaur just has more variety and things to do compared to Charizard
Hes bulky and you can run a lech seed toxic protect set on him as a support mon you can run a curse set or swordsdance set and with sludge bomb and earthquake you have lot of coverage
You can even use him well on a sun team with synthesis and solar beam
Charizard is just more limited hes a mixed atacker and has to compete with other mixed atackers like salamance and everything Charizard can do Salamnce can do better
They are both Dragons with a similar moveset but Salamnce has more options like Hydropump and pseudo legendary stats
He has a 4x weakness to ice but Charizard has the same 4x weakness to rock which is just as common as ice and worse stats so objectively theres no reason to use him as your Dragon pokemon
Venusaur is pretty unique by comparison in what roles and sets it can run and doesn't compete with anyone as strong in those roles

Stats being lower on the physical side dont mean much when you have this much coverage to hit anything you cant hit super effective with fire stab effective
Focus Punch does good damage on Blissey and Snorlalx of they switch in and you can predict it
Rockslide is good for flying types like Zapdos and Earthquake is just a powerful attack that hits tons of stuff for effective damage
Its not youre main attack just a complementary coverage option for when you canr just Fire blast everything
