What was the point of having the Legendary Birds in Platinum?Between Gen 3 and 4, you could get FOUR pairs of Legendary birds.One pair in FRLGOne pair in XD: Gale of DarknessOne pair in PlatinumOne pair in HGSSOn the other hand, the Regi Trio are only available through an event Regigigas distributed in an event that no longer exists.So you basically need RSE to get the Regis.

They wanted Heat Wave Zapdos in VGC and only having Zapdos catchable would be weird.
>>59239564Although it's true that it's easy to insert the Legendary Birds anywhere since they don't have any lore baggage, GameFreak also shoved Groudon and Kyogre into Embedded Tower in HGSS, so they don't really care that much about lore.The Regis are technically available in Platinum anyway. Gamefreak just knowingly chose to lock it behind a Movie Regigigas event as FOMO content.So the Birds are overrepresented and the Regis are underrepresented.

>>59239649The beasts were also rare.Before HGSS, the only practical way of obtaining the beasts was to transfer from Colosseum since playing though FR or LG three times for Legendaries garbage stats (Roaming IV glitch) isn't worth it.So you needed a a GameCube, a copy of Colosseum, AND a GBA-to-GC Link Cable.The Regis were basically locked behind the Movie event or transfering from Gen 3, so if you had a DSi rather than a DS/DS lite and missed the event, you were out of luck until BW2 released four or five years later.In hindsight, it feel like the Birds were handed out like candy in comparison to the Beasts and the Regis.

Hence the three birds being recruited to unlock the Silver Trench in Mystery Dungeon: Red/Blue Rescue Team and Rescue Team DX, Pokopia forcing you to register Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres to unlock the Tidal Bell recipe, etc.GameFreak also alluded to the connection in the Watatsumi's Den or Sea Spirit's Den in XY, where you encounter one of the three birds. The Sea Spirit is clearly Lugia.
