This is where the endgame started, undeniably the most decisive tipping point of the history of modern pokemon.

Funny how all the Dexit shit amounted to nothing lmao

i know right

>We are cutting content so it will be less work for us which in turn would not make the game suck.

>Game still sucks donkey nuts.

Sigh
>>
>The 3 worst people you'll ever meet in charge of your franchise

>You still bought it anyway
>>

thats not gen 2
>>
>>59253541
You've made this thread before, Jesus this place is dead
>>
>>59253541
I really wonder how people would've reacted if they never announced dexit and we only found out when the game released.
>>
>>59253779
The pre release footage wouldn’t have been as dissected trying to find any minute flaw with the graphics. When the game comes out the outrage would have been even greater and there’d been a lot of coping that the other Pokemon would get added in a future update. It would also score even lower by non journalist since there wouldn’t be months to come to terms with the Pokemon being cut.

don't waste the first reply with meaningless shit
>>

the premise of this thread is meaningless shit
>>
>>59253779
Nothing would change. They would still buy it anyway.
>>
>>59253541
The endgame started with Legpiss' dex being Kanto-only (unlike FRLG) and locking Mew behind a $50 microtransaction, to the point where you were arbitrarily blocked from transferring a Mew in from Go so you'd be forced to pay the $50. Everyone who bought it and made excuses for it allowed this to happen.
>>
>>59253541
No, the endgame started in Gen 2, when they basically screamed at you to buy a second Gameboy so you could interact with your Gen 1 games to get basic features like Evolution Stones without waiting until Kanto and then having to decide what to use your one-per-save stone on.
>>
>>59253967
The end game started in gen 1 when they sold you two versions of the same game
>>
>>59253541
>Gen 3
Where "Pokémania" stopped. Gen 2 was originally meant to be the final one.
>Gen 4
End of the Gameboy trilogy. Start of powercreep with gods.
>Gen 5
Often criticised for "ugly designs" and not having old Pokémon.
>Gen 6
Start of 3D. Often considered the start of casualisation with exp sharer.
>Gen 7
Death of spinoffs. Start of mobile slop. Death of evil teams.
>Gen 8
Where the games started to undebatably objectively go to shit

Really depends on who you ask when Pokémon died.
>>
Gen 3 and 5 are the only gens that actually had a pretty large amount of people quitting the series compared to people still playing, at least it seems this way. 3 was too different and the magic of the series was dying anyway. 5 lacked anything new until post game and by time B2W2 dropped nobody cared enough to give it another chance
>>
>>59254922
>Gen 2
Where a significant chunk of the OG playerbase dropped the series calling it "babyish" and "childish" because it retained the exact same framework as the past game, with the same scope and remits.
>>
>>59254922
>Death of evil teams.
Team Skull is the best one, though. Not their fault that Ohmori had too much of a boner for malasadas and Nebby's bag to notice.
>>
>>59255115
>Gen 3 and 5 are the only gens that actually had a pretty large amount of people quitting the series compared to people still playing
No, actually, that was gen 2. Just look at the utterly dismal sales of Crystal.
>>
>>59253541
SM soured me on the franchise but this was the last straw. I haven't bought a Pokemon game since then. I'm an outlier though, the games are selling better than ever. So clearly people don't care.
>>
>>59253570
>>You still bought it anyway
I didn't, though.
>>
>>59253833
SwSh is shit.
Gen IV isn't.
prove me wrong.
>>
The different eras of Pokemon are:
>Gens 1 and 2
>3 and 4
>5 and 6 (yes, 5 is more similar to 6 than 4)
>7 and LGPE
>8 and 9
>>
>>59255126
tbf Masuda remakes tend to sell very poorly. That's pretty consistent
>>
>>59255455
>>5 and 6 (yes, 5 is more similar to 6 than 4)
literally how? 4 and 5 literally share the same engine.
>>
>>59255447
Gen IV is shit.
SS isn’t.
prove me wrong.
>>
>>59255462
No they don’t.
>>
>>59255462
XY follows BW/BW2's philosophy a lot more closely than people realize. BW's gym leaders only use 3 pokemon, the Elite 4 only has 4, XY has the same design. BW2 is when Gamefreak started stuffing the regional dex with tons of Pokemon, XY does the same. BW has multiple rivals, XY has even more. RS also has multiple rivals but it's not really as serious with it as BW was, you will always be interacting with at least one of Bianca, Cheren, and N. The games are more narrative heavy in general.

gen iv (dppt)
the good:
>physical/special split changed the game forever
>iconic starters with unique typing (infernape found its own niche)
>best cast of legendaries in the series + thematic events
>sophisticated soundtrack
>split evos for forgotten mons like magneton and rhydon
>fun underground minigame
>battle frontier for actual post-game challenge
>poketch was nifty
>top tier dungeon design
>cynthia was a goat champion
>hgss only peaked because dppt engine was fundamentally sound
>fun rival in Barry
>cities actually had things to do
>cool gym puzzles
>cutscenes used for dramatic set pieces, not just npc yapping
>hms made exploration feel like a real rpg journey with your mons
the bad:
>slow paced battle flow (the hp bars...)
>lack of diversity in catchable mons
>overreliance on hms makes movesets a struggle to maintain
>can't forget hms
gen viii (sw/sh)
the good:
>actually easy to raise mons for competitive
>gym music/stadium concept was cool for the sports vibe
>dragapult is a top tier pseudo
>i'm ok with forced exp share. i hate necessary grinding (just needs a level cap)
>wild area had potential (pla/sv did it better though)
>some might like that there are no more hms
the bad:
>why change infinite TMs to TRs
>raid battles are absolute slop
>that piers silent singing animation...
>bosses still not having full teams
>even worse forced cutscenes than sun/moon
>uninteresting villains
>dynamax is bad balance-wise and uninteresting + kanto pandering
>dlcs
>uninspired legendary designs
>terrible ui
>limited and uninspiring animations
>culled pokedex for no lore reason
>culled megas and z-moves for no lore reason
>boring single-type starters (except maybe rillaboom)
>cities are just wallpaper, can't even enter some visible houses with doors
>dungeons are just hallways (ffxiii tier)
>used technical limitations as an excuse while the game stayed broken
>lack of mon usage outside of battle (the no hm problem)

too much bad things come with gen viii.
>>
So what does James Turner *do*
>>
>>59255591
>Half these points are literally nothing, or apply to any generation
Well no shit, we are comparing 2 generations only. It won't fit in one post if I make it even more detailed
>DPPt is dog ass, with DP being the worst base games
No arguments = opinion invalid.
>>
>>59255455
No, they should be seperated by console generation
>1 and 2
>3
>4 and 5
>6 and 7
>8 and 9
>>
>>59255462
>4 and 5 literally share the same engine.
Teraleak proves this isn't even the case, they rebuilt it from scratch because the Gen IV engine was that bad
>>
>>59255549
>the good:
>physical/special split
Stopped reading there.
>>
>>59255591
>with DP being the worst base games
Better than BW.
Probably beats RS too, Emerald does a lot for Hoenn.
>>
>>59255692
nah, 4 has a lot in common with 3. I would honestly put 5 alone as its own thing, it's a weird middle ground between the old and the new.
>>
>>59255726
on the contrary, Emerald is probably the 3rd/sequel edition that improves the least on the original region. the main reason to play Emerald is the Battle Frontier, it doesn't really do all that much for the main game. the Rayquaza story is cool but otherwise it doesn't add nearly as much as Platinum or BW2.
>>
>>59255735
Emerald does add a lot of obnoxious game padding like the new Magma Hideout because they didn't know how to actually make the story a good 50/50 Aqua vs. Magma story and lazily asset flipped Sapphire
>>
Ohmori is on track to redeeming himself in WiWa. Trust.
>>
>>59253833
This entire board and website is meaninglessshit.com
>>
>>59255726
DP is so bad they had to put in a ton of work to make Plat half decent, base DP was so barebones it was laughable, the reason BDSP gets so much hate is because it correctly exposes how ass Sinnoh is in literally every aspect of Pokemon without the Platinum content to patch all the holes.
>>
>>59255709
>stopped reading with something I disagree without any reason
Cringe
>>
>>59255805
Without Platinum DpPt already stood on its own.
Platinum just makes it even better.
BDSP is hated because unlike FRLG and HGSS it didn't add make any effort to try to expand the base game in a sensible way.
>>
>>59255917
*Without DP not DPPt
>>
>>59255455
>>59255692
>Pokémania era
Gen 1
Gen 2
>Gameboy Advanced era
Gen 3
>DSbort era
Gen 4
Gen 5
>3DS era
Gen 6
Gen 7
>Endless slop era, Death of Pokémon
Gen 8
Gen 9
Probably gen 10 but who knows maybe it will be good
>>
>>59255922
Death of Pokemon is since gen 6 lol
>>
>>59255922
Imagine thinking USUM aren't the slopiest of lazy slops
>>
>>59255455
i'd argue that 3 and 4 were on different eras since they were so far apart and don't really share that much in common
>>
>>59253541
>The Battle Frontier project has started
That was the start of the end for me. And I was right.
>>
>>59255455
Not really. While it’s true that BW is more similar to XY than to DP, SwSh is far more similar to SM than to SV, to the point that SwSh can basically be seen as an upscaled version of SM. Hop is essentially just another Hau, and the Lillie/Marnie character arc is heavily recycled as well.

A more accurate classification would be:

Gen 1 and 2: Retro Era (early classic)
Gen 3 and 4: Late Classic Era (which, together with Gen 1/2, forms the broader Classic Era)
Gen 5 and 6: Post-Classic Era (the transitional period)
Gen 7 and 8: Modern Era (known for each new game removing more content than the previous one)
PLA + Gen 9 (and probably Gen 10): Post-Modern / Open-World Era
>>
>>59255591
You didn't even list any flaws, you fucking dork. Platinum's a better game than HGSS too.
>>59255805
Like here, "BDSP is le bad because DP is le bad, but HGSS" is le good". No nigger, I don't like BDSP because it's an ugly, soulless piece of shit. And DP weren't barebones games at all.

By your own faggot terms, you're forced to agree BDSP's better than HGSS because it's not slow as fuck, it offers better Pokemon availablity offering shit like Houndour as soon as you beat the 2nd gym, and you don't need dumb shit like Whirlpool to beat the game, right
>>
>>59255455
>5 and 6 (yes, 5 is more similar to 6 than 4)
This just tells me you've never played either one, because it's hard to think of two gens that are as dramatically different from each other as those two are.
Even the biggest Unova Derangement Syndrome shitposters will always compare it to gen 7, not 6, when trying to pretend that gen 5 is "nu-Pokemon."
