This is where Pokemon started feeling less like species of natural creatures and more like unique individual characters.

that was gen 1 with cubone, kangaskhan and my mom's jackie chan

Kangaskhan looks like a multiplicitous monster.
There is no "my mom's Jackie Chan".
Nothing about Cubone's design makes it look like a one-of.
>>
>>59261192
You are completely right.
>>
>>59261205
>>Cubone
>>Hypno
these don't look unique
they look like they could conceivably belong to a species of creatures which look the same
>>Machoke
Machop looks like a species
Machoke still looks animalian
you can argue that the belt is intrusive and unnatural, but that still doesn't mean it makes the mon as a whole look like it could be one member of identical but separate individuals
>>Mime
is like an elf or a fairy or a gnome
gnomes all look the same with their pointy hats and long beards, but there are still multiple gnomes
they aren't distinctly detailed enough to only conceivably be one person
>>Jynx
it's likewise like a ghost or banshee or valkyrie, where multiples exist though they look similar / the same
>>Hitmons
Hitmonlee obviously looks like it belongs to a group of monsters
And similarly, Hitmonchan---again, just because it looks like it's wearing clothes doesn't mean it can't be a uniform, and the clumsiness of having clothes is a separate design issue than the current one---it at least looks like it can belong to a race of humanoid monsters

Contrast all these with Blaziken, which looks too much like a humanoid *animal* that also has the job of a martial artist. Even if it's based on chickens that stand-up, its particular mannerisms are way too suggestive of personal habit.
>>
>>59261226
Blaziken is much more believable as a species than any of those gen 1 mons. It's just a humanoid bird, like the mythical garuda.
>>
>>59261226
>lizard fighter wearing clothes is ok
>human fighter wearing clothes is ok
>somehow a bird fighter who is naked isn't
This kind of cope is why genwunners have been the butt of jokes since 2012.
>>
>>59261192
I blame Blaziken, literally a man in a fuckibg chicken suit
