Emerald, hands down. It's leagues better than it's own remake. What's wrong with it even? No Physical/Special split? Only a few Pokemon are negatively impacted which sucks dick but that's Game Freak just designing Pokemon wrong consistently (see: basically every ice type until they started popping out overtuned ones). Breeding is hard? There's no online where it would matter (just play ADV on Smogon, people actually like that format), and the Battle Frontier will never truly challenge you in that specific way (factors outside of your stats are probably the most important they've ever been in battle facilities outside of maybe Gale of Darkness or B2W2 if you squint). The Battle Palace is a war crime? Yeah let's take off some points for that. The water routes are borderline experimental? Yeah the mandatory ones kind of suck dick, but the rest of the game's map design including the optional water routes are quite good. The overworld sprites look like ass? Yeah that's a real shame, but ORAS doesn't fix it either because Gen 6's overworld style is probably the second worst.Platinum, being based on Sinnoh, is fighting an uphill battle, and everything good about it is in the much better HGSS. It's still arguably the best Sinnoh game unless you really want to consider LA which I don't and also it has it's own set of problems. But DP was the worst Pokemon game until SS came out and BDSP is just terrible for basically the entire experience and might be the worst Pokemon game after SS came out so yeah go for Platinum. HGSS having a mediocre campaign as the only real negative is better than Sinnoh just wasting your fucking time for payoff that isn't worth it (a problem that would come back with a vengeance in XY).

After you get your silver medal the gloves come off and the legendaries and actually viable sets start coming out. However by the time you get to those they're still 3IV. In fact all non Frontier Brain Pokemon are 3IV (with the exception of the factory.) A lot of people think it's a bug but to be honest I think they did it to give the player a better chance. That being said despite everything being 3IVs the BF isn't a joke you'll still need decent Pokemon and not your in game team. You'll also be dealing with some of the most insane RNG sets like pic related. This evil Walrein with sheer cold and fissure has been in every battle facility since the R/S tower.

But that also means if you have a solid team you'll get it in 2 or 3 tries tops. The most annoying facilities are probably pyramid and the one were your pokemon chooses its moves based on its personality trait.
