Fighting the mc from the previous gen as a final boss should've become a staple of the franchise.
>>59263320Modern Pokémon hates cross-regional continuity. Masuda has said that they don't want to do shit like that because it "restricts their creativity" or whatever the fuck.
>>59263320You can fight REDDDD from KANTOOOOOOOOO in the post game of Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon and he had a NFE Pikachu lol.
>>59263354>trainer keeps his ace as NFES O V L
>>59263336Well he was kicked out of directing another Pokemon game, so that's a non-issue
>>59263320It would have lost its luster if done repeatedly, but it's a shame they never picked up on it and multi-regions again.
>>59263336>multiple cross gen references in SV>Alola stuff in LG and gen 6>All the Red and Blue shit in gen 7>Looker in gen 6>Leon shilling in ZA>subway guy in PlaUhhh ok bro
>>59263320As much as people like to sing praises to gen 2, it never could've worked as the formula going forward. Gen 3 doesn't get enough credit for this.
>>59263636And most of those things barely touch on continuity. Masuda's response was in response to a question about Mina's depiction in LG and what that meant for the overall timeline, to which his response was "we don't want you to think too hard about the timeline since it restricts our freedom".
>>59263659>it never could've worked as the formula going forward. It's funny how, despite that, it largely establishes the standard for champions of the next 2 games.
Yes, just what this series needs, even more derivative and repetitive conventions.
>>59263636All of those are after Masuda or while he was on his way out the door
>>59263320Hilda and Hilbert were supposed to be fightable in BW2.
>>59263320The only other games that inarguably should have had a past protagonist battle were BW2 and ZA.
>>59263779>>59263791They should've done this with the Memory Link feature, using your BW team. That would've been dangerously kino.
>>59263320Not really, if it becomes a staple it gets tiring quickly and the subsequent battles become forgetabble.People already don't even remember the teams used in the final battle as the Champions from neither Hau or the rival from LGPE since this gimmick was already done by Blue in the original games. What made the battle with Red special was the fact that it was unique.
>>59263336>restricts their creativityTheir creativity is fucking trash how much worse could it get
>>59263904>if it becomes a staple it gets tiring quickly and the subsequent battles become forgetabble. You could literally say the same about how every game has you fighting gym leaders, an evil team and the elite 4.
>>59263336about fuckin time. I want to fight dawn and lucas in a fist fight on the top of mt coronet while arceus watches
No, it takes away from what makes the Red fight so special. He's not even really a final boss, more of a postgame superboss than anything
>>59263925>The fist fight in questionhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCOxzBu0f48
>>59263919And you remember most of these characters either from their unique design or their ace pokemon, very few of them become memorable for being "challenging" like it was with Red (not saying his fight is difficult, but the higher levels do catch you by surprise when you face him for the first time blind)
>>59263320If there was some way to link games, it could be neat. The GBA slot in early DSes was a perfect chance
>>59263919>You could literally say the same about how every game has you fighting gym leaders, an evil team and the elite 4.I mean... Unironically the biggest mistake gen 2 made was sticking to that formula.
>>59263986>And you remember most of these characters either from their unique design or their ace pokemon, very few of them become memorable for being "challenging" like it was with Red Is it any wonder why she's not just the most popular champion and one of the most popular character period?
>>59263636None have physically appeared since SWSH (outside the one explained by time travel). Most could care less about some random NPC saying "remember this super awesome guy from another region?". I anticipate they just don't want to worry about a timeline anymore with SWSH being a sort of soft reboot
>>59263997>I anticipate they just don't want to worry about a timeline anymore with SWSH being a sort of soft rebootThird time the charm...
>>59263997>they just don't want to worry about a timeline anymore with SWSH being a sort of soft rebootIn ZA it’s only been 5 years since the events of XY, and ZA does take place after SwSh (I think there’s a reference to it being after SV as well). The timeline hasn’t advanced that far yet for them to worry about anything. They actually shouldn’t have to worry about the timeline anyway outside of remakes or legends games set in the past since all the core Pokemon games take place after the previous one.
>>59263996Yeah people love to meme and gush about her Unova jumpscare, it's fun to encounter previous big hitters from past game, doesn't always have to be the protag. USUM's attempt at it was kind of lame but encountering previous evil team is a cool idea they should do again, just make it N or Jupiter or Maxie or whoever the fuck with an insanely strong team wandering a distant region in search of meaningOr a stray frontier brain like anabel but no amnesia
>>59264267>Or a stray frontier brain like anabel but no amnesiaThem mentioning the battle frontier is as likely as them dropping Pikachu as a mascot
>>59263629They will do it in a future project featuring all regions based in real-life Japan.
