>>59263700I was working briefly on porting the Gen 3 Pokemon Clover mons over to HeartGold, though I was doing it ass-backwards and doing just basic binary hacking. No decomp, no HG-Engine, just good old fashioned Rom fuckery.I imported every sprite and got about as far as importing Pokedex data when I realized I wasn't autistic enough for the task and stopped. I really wish I had continued and had some kind of working base for which to expand upon for a Gen 4 PoClo. But alas, I lost the source rom I was working on.
Been working on a new sprite project. Still on the early drafts, but I felt like asking what you lads think? Are the Scovillain decals on the jacket too tacky?

>lets try pokeduel>was having fun, lets try quick look at dex for future mons i want to use>there are 4 mons with skill link but one has 0 multihit moves, another only has arm thrust to use (why choose this over technician?), another is a 130 SpA powerhouse so 0 reason to use tail slap so that leaves with just one proper user with only pin missle to use>one of the two mon with contrary has 0 move to abuse it and also a SpA mon so can't even benefit from intimidate spammers>my yugiboomer wife gets gutted because parental bond means jackshit without good damage or moves that abuses it, doubt 90 base atk is going to kill shit mid-lategame in brutal mode>my mono electric mon that has awesome levitate is forced to get static (???) after evolvingI still like the hack but really wish a sequel or hack based on this is currently in development to fix those kind of bizzare issues. Sometimes really feels like dev puts randomizer on the hack and he decides who gets what ability based on that
Anyone happen to have that pokemon infinite fusion sprite pack link?Fusion threads have gone extinctAlso why are all the nsfw games so shit?Luster has a good premise but the level tables and level designs are genuinely retarded
>>59264029Look for IF general in the archive and the link will be in the OP. Honestly, it's mostly just gooner sprites or things stolen from DA.

>>59264317Wait, are you checking the archive on 4chan, or one of the 4chan archive sites?
>>59264216it depends how much you want to do and how strong your base hacking knowledge isI'm in a similar boat and from what I have read, for small changes and absolute beginners it's recommended to start with binary (hex maniac advance etc.) but for an involved hack (and if you know a bit of C/ASM) you go with the decompsfrom what I know binary hacking has a lower barrier of entry but with the decomps if you know how to code you can make wholesale changes without fucking too much of the source code upbut I am no expert
Is there any other full games slated to come out this year besides Monomyth and Copper? I'm not super interested in Copper anyways since it seems like a pretty barebones essentials game even if the grass starter is pretty cool. But if there's nothing else I might give it a shot anyways.
So, how far does the Peach/Lime demo go up to?
>>59264638I think it's 3 gyms.
>>59264579Yes. I won't tell you what they are since most of them will just be dropped with no warning.

Here's my team while playtesting part of the upcoming second demo.
>>59264410Im just not a programmer

>>59264410A few things:>how strong your base hacking knowledge isExisting ROM hacking knowledge would mainly be helpful for binary hacking, while existing programming knowledge would be most helpful for decomp hacking.>absolute beginners it's recommended to start with binaryDecomp hacking is viable for beginners too and many people would also recommend it over binary. For example: https://www.pokecommunity.com/threads/the-case-for-leaving-binary-hacking-behind-in-2025-and-beyond.537751/>(and if you know a bit of C/ASM)Knowing programming is not a requirement for using decomps, and ASM is something that you might need to learn with binary hacking but it's not used in the decomps.
Just got my copy of Omega Ruby so I'll be playing it soon, but I need opinions: What's the best balanced difficulty hack for ORAS?I don't want any gameplay or story changes, just the difficulty ratcheted up a notch or two. I've never actually played ORAS but if the difficulty curve is even in the same time zone as X&Y then I want to fix it.For frame of reference I did the "lite" version of Wilting Y, first gym levels in the low to mid teens, champion's ace was level 87, every veteran had a team of six with a mega to cap it off, trainers had more Pokemon with better items attached to them as the game went on, it was perfect. Best 'vanilla' Pokemon story experience I've ever enjoyed and I'd like something roughly equal to that, not the first gym being in the level 30s with fully evolved pseudo legendaries or any crap like that.
>>59265750ORAS was pretty faithful to the original Ruby/Sapphire games. It just played like X/Y with optional megas and added more stuff to do postgame. Was also nice how they added the Latias/Latios island event into the actual story early on but It was a mystery gift thing IIRC.
are there any romhacks around the same tier as Polished Crystal currently?

>>59265883There are many romhacks that have music ripped from other games. For example, Pokemon Heart and Soul uses music ripped from HGSS.
>>59265902You can add new music to a rom, but it's not as simple as dragging and dropping an mp3 file into a folder. I'm assuming that's what anon meant.

>>59266180doesnt it just apply a stat stage to attack when an opponent is defeated? genuinely, how hard would it be to change what stat is raised?
>>59266210Sounds reasonable
>>59263684My red++ porting to the PC engine is going well. The tilesets were a bit hard so instead of going for the entire devamped gen3 tilesets that red+++ was going to use I am going for a mix in pic rel. Its minor but I think it looks nice and it does wonders to not have every town use the same type of housing or all of Kanto be in rectangular commie blocks and suburbs and nothing else. I would show on PolishedMap but it messes with the colors for some reason as opposed to a screen shot from in game. I am just glad its coming along fine.
>>59266307You're just starting from scratch? Are you going to add anything on top of it?
romhacks w/ custom regions that have the best most extensive surf + dive side areas and secrets?
What fangame(s) do you find promising?
Why dont romhacks make use of the fact that neither side of entrances and exits have to face the same direction? I mean, why cant you enter from the front on the outside but exit from the side on the inside? isnt it just mapping one doorway to another?
>>59266430Unknown, but more hacks should give May a fat ass.
>>59266430It's easier to orient the player if they come out the same direction they went in. What do you truly gain from turning a map 90 degrees?
>>59266315Yeah, just started from scratch if you mean just started as you kinda need to start by scratch? Sorry for being dumb. I started this since wanted to have the story of RGB on the GSC gen2 engine. Polished Crystal has so many qol upgrades to it from abilities to better management of the code, lag, graphics, tilesets, etc. I knew of red++ and wanted to add stuff from that too as it was red++ that inspired me and was sad that it was never finished. For now going to port over the RGB story and then add new stuff if open for suggestions.
>>59266470I meant porting everything over yourself instead of working from the in-progress Red++ that was being made with Polished Crystal.
>>59266478I still have no idea where to start.
>>59265453>Knowing programming is not a requirement for using decompsyou do need to at least be able to read it, at the minimum, especially if you want to know how basically anything works. adding a new pokemon is piss easy, you're just slotting values into tables, but adding a new move and giving it a unique animation is quite a step up. that's not speaking of literally any new mechanic whatsoever, even if it only requires 3 new lines of code you still need to know where to put it and what it means.that said I don't think the decomp is the worst place to start learning, the difficulty of the code varies massively from basic tables to incomprehensible machine-babble. I have zero formal training and can figure out a decent chunk of it as long as I don't try to edit the battle GUI
>>59266418Fangames? None. Essentials always has been and always will be low effort slop.
>>59266554MIND to the BROKEN.
>>59266430the real answer is that pokemon doesn't do entrances in 99% of instances and thus the art style isn't designed for it in mind. so it takes a bit more effort to make it work. in the last 2 years I've spent romhacking off-and-on I think I've only found 1-2 instances where I actually WANTED a horizontal doorway,
>>59266529>that said I don't think the decomp is the worst place to start learning, the difficulty of the code varies massively from basic tables to incomprehensible machine-babble. I have zero formal training and can figure out a decent chunk of it as long as I don't try to edit the battle GUIDecomping is trivial with LLMs. I've been flying through things that would take me weeks, in the past.
>>59266161>Wasnt aware there were archive sites for anything older than like a few daysThere are sites that go back to 16. Anything past that gets a little iffy since the site doing it lost a lot of data and it's been splintered ever since. Just google "4chan archive [board]" and you'll find what you need.
>>59266430In my opinion keeping the same direction helps with immersion as it makes it feel like the entrance really is connected to that exit.
>>59266577don't the models that can do code cost a fuckton of money?
>>59266529>you do need to at least be able to read it, at the minimumThat depends on what you're doing. As you said, if you want to program in a completely custom move effect and animation, you'll likely have to read and edit code, but if you just want to add a new pokemon to the game you don't need to program anything. There's a lot that can be done without programming and for many projects that's enough.
>>59266180is it that hard to modify existing abilities? While there are alot of hacks with new abilities i haven't seen any hacks where devs edit vanilla ones

>>59266566I see I've caught one. Dumb little fish.
>>59266230>>59266685It's a pretty easy code change if you're using the decomp.
>>59266685depends on what and how he's doing it. in the decomp it's braindead easy. moxie didn't exist until black/white and if he's trying to hack black/white it's probably significantly harder than the decomp.
>>59266628LOL no. You can download the Codex app right now for free. I pay $20 a month for a ton of credits. I'll chip away about 2hrs a day and not hit the token limit.
>>59263700How bad of a skill issue is that last time I played it I dropped it around the first gym? I forgot if it was before or after beating that gym but I just didn't have the motivation to EV train and such.
>>59266749PSFor reference, I've been able to add the following features with no headache:>New meter system based on two stances (think something sort of like Watcher from Slay the Spire)>Climb any mountain tile based on a rolling counter>Aqua Jet forward across any water tiles based on said rolling counter>A population count that can arbitrarily increment/decrement>Specialty balls that have a higher catch rate based on the Pokemon you're using, with added animations and SFX if successful (I'm using Farfetch'd)>Multiple protagonists, with hotswapping in an "Infiltration Mission" frameworkThe only thing that gave me a bit of a headache was getting the dumby markers for the multiple protagonists to persist between map transfers, but with a little bit of effort, the model was able to fix that, too.
>>59266478That one is several years out of date so its being remade on the current engine as it was abandoned long ago.

>>59267442If you are giving bosses 252/252/4 EVs so early (i.e Odyssey hard mode where starting from 2nd stratum every bosses has that) make sure EV editor or trainer is also available just as early, same with IV Always remember for first 2 gyms players has mostly shitmons. No, Arceus in gym 1 with shit moveset is still a major bullshit because stab tackle hurts
>>59267691This is the gold standard for "first gym where player has mostly shitmons"
>>59267691my first gym is two shitmons followed by a level 14 bagon. the entirety of the fight is really just the bagon, the preceding pokemon die immediately.
>>59267442I'll just say things that pisses me off and turns me away from difficulty romhacks. What anon said >>59267691 and don't give Gym Leaders OP mons at the start, like giving Roxanne an Aerodactyl with a Mega Stone. No max EV on every stat if the player can't do it, giving moves that the Pokémon can learn at that level so no Rock Slide for a Level 15 Aerodactyl (might be nice to use egg moves to show how strong a Gym Leader is but no bullshit moves with 120BP) and no Swords Dance or Dragon Dance on the first gym, save that for the third or fourth gym onwards. Set Mode and using battle/potions in battle shouldn't be disabled, either don't do it or make it an option to let them enabled or disabled.EV/IV Editor and Nature mints somewhere between the second to fourth gym, don't make it accessible only post game. Ability capsules can be a bit later although I personally like them to be available as soon as possible. No Legendaries or Mythicals for Gym Leaders, Elite 4 or Rivals. Don't give Gym Leaders/Rivals items that the player can't buy, so no Loaded Dice for the Water type gym leader who uses a Greninja with Water Shuriken if the player can't buy that item at that point.Make fly or some alternative available as soon as possible IF you have already visited the city/town/route. It's nice to walk through the region but alas, sometimes its annoying. If you plan on Level Caps, either make them optional OR allow the mons to gain experience but they're really low.
Man, on a scale from 1 to 10 how hard would it be to demake base SV in, say, HGSS or BW? I say those because I doubt there's enough memory for every big location to be included in a .gba file.
>>59267708>shit moves like rock tomb, sand tomb, ancient power, bulldoze, etc. This is EZ>>59267714Dragon type is underrated for the first gym. Right out the gate the player cant steamroll as easily with a starter
>>59267724Is it really that big? If some creator managed to put Galar or whatever the fuck its called in that SwSh demake than surely it's possible to do it with SV, I mean that fucking Spanish Rocket edition has managed to put Kanto, Sevii, Johto AND Hoenn together
>>59267708The fuck is that team?
>>59267730What black magic have they done? A SV demake would need to have 13 towns, 5 star bases which are essentially their own town each, 5 titan bosses each in their own esconced route area, area zero which is basically cerulean cave/magma hideout on crack, the asado desert, tagtree thicket, and wherever the hell the four ruins are, all taking up valuable space. It's basically an inverse of what people think ORAS Hoenn's waters were.An SS demake, on the other hand, is pretty much just BW with how linear it is, complete with a big area totally not just white forest/black city in disguise in the middle. Perhaps I am downplaying things, but unless it also has the DLCs, I don't think SS is all that hard to demake.Once again, though; what the hell is that Spanish Rocket black magic?
>>59267750pokemonnull.com/about
>>59267756Just saw it, and good fucking lord, that's DLCs and all, on FireRed of all games. Wizardry... perhaps Paldea is possible after all.
>>59267756>what the hell is that Spanish Rocket black magic?Indeed. From what I remember there were some additional places in Kanto, Sevii and Johto; caves, massive routes, hideouts; fake megas, betamons, prototypes forms, primal and bond forms; new moves and animations for them, sprites; new events... honestly don't know how the dev/team managed to add all that and four regions in the same romhack, well i'm sure that by not having following pokemon it did became easier to do all that but alas i messed around with debug mode but i don't remember seeing gen 8 or gen 9 mons in it so i'm sure that helped a bit i guess>>59267785>Fire RedMade using pokeemerald iirc
>>59267756I'm an uninformed pleb but from what I can tell, doesn't base pokeemerald only use like 40~% of the ROM? There should be a fuckload of room for new assets.
>>59267717If you need ev/iv training its a shit hack, ev/iv is an awful mechanic
>>59266712>Jokes on you>My retardation was actually bait!
>>59266430There are other games that flip the camera when you entering a new area and it’s very obnoxious and most people don’t like this. Also that other guy talking art direction has a point. Your example has a sideways door and going sideways looks weird cause of cramp the sprite work is for a single tile. Look at how sideway stairs are handled. I personally think it doesn’t look good, but I remember years ago being touted as a big achievement even tho it feels pretty jank to work with.
>>59267756>What black magic have they done?Probably nothing other than maybe purposefully leaving out following pokemon and gens 8 & 9 like >>59267792 said. The available ROM space in the GBA games is less limiting than what many people think.
>>59265819skulkraken but mostly because I think clobbopus is in desperate need of something better than grapploct
>>59267756>13 townsFRLG has that, easily.
>>59267858Yup. Plenty of room for new maps.
>>59267858Emerald uses a 16 MiB ROM chip of which 14.2 MiB are used. The maximum the GBA CPU can address without mapper chips is 32 MiB which only a few games used. There is 64 MiB chips with mappers for the GBA video carts.
>>59267339I will just 3D print my own Green Model for now.Its not super complicated to recycle code already used in the game…
>>59267717I think its fine if leaders get access to hold items and megas before the player but it to be within reason. No throwing out Mega Kanga when you're using route 1+2 mons
>>59267717>What anon said >>59267691 # and don't give Gym Leaders OP mons at the start, like giving Roxanne an Aerodactyl with a Mega Stone. Here's an idea: each Gym Leader has a dialogue choice that gives them the OP mons if you pick the wrong option.
