Anything else are merely subjective opinions, altered by nostalgia googles. The cold, objective truth of sales told us that:>Gen 1 is the absolute GOAT generation (I dislike genwunners, but that is)>Gen 2 is the undisputed second best>Gen 3 was the first dark age where sales plummered>Gen 4 had a decent recovery and was better than Gen 3. Still nowhere near gen 2>Gen 5 was the second dark age and the undisputed worst in sales among all. The IP almost died thanks to It>Gen 6/7 both were solid and the first stable tendencies of increases in sales since Gen 1-2>Gen 8 was a massive success and the third greatest generation among all. Pokemon is again mainstream and cool thanks to it
>>59265346Gen 8 and 9 ruin the graph because Covid made video games mainstream, so now all video games sell better across the board.
>>59265346I pulled these numbers out of my Absols ass by the way.It took 2 hours and 5 bottles of lube to pull out all these numbers from Absols huge squishy ass and it is still gaping and in pain from the ordeal.
the reason this ruins the graph is because normals have the worst buying to playing habits of any video game consumer. The most likely demographic to buy a game and either not complete it, or not play it at all. Before ennormalfagification, if a game was good it sold well because people bought games to play them. Now people buy games to be "part of the next thing".
>>59265362>The most likely demographic to buy a game and either not complete it, or not play it at all.>Before ennormalfagification, if a game was good it sold well because people bought games to play themMotherfucker, attrition rate has ALWAYS been a factor in vidya, going back to the EARLIEST days of home vidya when games were straight ports of arcade games and kept the arcade mentality of "keep it fucking hard to keep people feeding money into the machine to finish" despite them GETTING their money with the game sale. It's been a constant that cunts were saying it back at the turn of the 2010's. Normals didn't do shit to change that.
>>592653509 isn't in the graph retard
>>59265346Sales only tell you how good the marketing is, they have very little correlation with the quality of the product.
>>59265362>>59265370>Be underage>Beat EVERY game I get my hands on>Often 100% if I enjoyed the game>Obly drop games I hate>Grow up to become not underage>Difficulty finishing 30+ hour games unless I really love them>Beat 2 30+ hour games a year>Drop games even if I like themI blame:DepressionThe internet always showing me shiny new gamesHaving access to too many games. As a child I got one game and that was my game for the next 3 months. As an adult I have basically infinite games.Zoomer attention span brainrot from Youtube, 4chan and Discord even if I don't use tiktok.I actually favour shorter games 6 hours or below nowadays because those are tge only ones that I beat all of the time if I enjoy them.
me buying a game and then disliking it still counts as a sale, sales are the only correct way to measure promotional success
>>59265371why notbut it would be like 2nd place if it was
>>59265346Sales are useless because they are mainly self-reported and there's nothing stopping companies from setting up fake proxy buyers purchasing shit on paper just to put it back into warehouse owned by the same company. It happened with music industry till groups responsible for organizing various awards told companies doing it to fuck off. It happened to movie industry till companies doing it got memed and bullied to tears with photos of empty cinemas. What stops game companies doing the same?>Nuuuuuu, ur schizo!!!111 They cannot lie to their investoooors!!111In fact, they can. Obviously it may end poorly when investors will sniff out the bullshit (look - case of WoTC covering their blatant overprinting of MTG cards ending with multiple legal cases), but beyond that there's nothing stopping companies from showing fake and manipulated numbers to look good.
>>59265407Probably cause the graph is oldAnd yeah I knowFun fact, SV surpassed gen 1 sales in Japan
>>59265346Gen 5 was worse in sales only because they saved the remake for gen 6Otherwise the sales numbers between gen 2 and 7 are mostly the same with ORAS being an outlier bumpSwSh and SV were carried mostly by Pokèmon GO hype
>>59265346It's not true because some gens take longer years to develop, therefore they have more sales. At the very least divide the sale number by the amount of year to get a better comparison
>>59265346Why even bother with the remakes and the third editions if they always sell worse than the main games?
>>59265434Cause they're really cheap and easy to make.
>>59265346According to your logic usum is better than all zelda games but oot and the switch ones
Art is not objective, it's intersubjective.
>>59265434It was a cheap and easy way to propagate the brand while main team worked on the next new Gen game. They're at a point where selling a rehash or remake is unviable in one case and a limitation on the studio in the other (choosing to instead make DLC following on from the events of the new Gen pair and exploring a new series of games related to the prime timeline of games instead of their historic mid-Gen outputs), so they adapted for the modern era, on a console both stronger than anything they ever met up to even Switch and more popular with game-playing adults (as opposed to the DS' "blue ocean" audience of non-gamer "gamers") since the dying days of Game Boy and every household nearly having at least one knocking around.
>>59265380>no, the problem isn't i have a shorter attention span, it's outside influences on me!Grew up in the 80's, cut my gaming teeth on NES and Game Boy. Give me a game worth investing my time in both mechanically and tone/style/story-wise and I will sink hundreds of hours into it (currently stalling on pulling the trigger on a Legion Pro 5i as I want to play DOOM: Dark Ages and BL4 but not paying $110 for DOOM when summer sale's around the corner either). The issue is the bulk of the industry making for the bulk of the market meaning it's mostly grey slop designed to get the sheep shooting online to join the post game shopping.
>>59265346Based Gen 8
>>59265434Old school nips developer obessed with perfection. Nowadays they judg adopted the nu-western habit of release barebone games to complete with trillions of DLC
>>59265346i know this is just unova trolling and i dont even like gen5 but i feel like it really isnt a meaningful factor in doing so because gen 5 really was the time they cut it way too close with the release timing for it. nobody gave a fuck about the ds by the time bw released internationally in 2011 (just days before the 3ds released too) and absolutely nobody wanted anything to do with it by 2012 especially with a gimmick like the dual sequels rather than something more marketable like a mainline game or remake, if emerald or platinum released in its slot, theyd basically be the same sales wise probably. the ds wasnt like the gba or 3ds where they had a good few years of developer support in them after the next console release because they "still had something to offer to the table". devs and consumers dropped the ds hard and its last years on the market were basically just the jp games that took awhile to trickle to the west like layton and game freak refusing to move on. the 3ds replaced the ds and it dropped dead, nobody wanted an outdated game, they wanted the shiny new 3d pokemon adventure. its an issue beyond "the game is good/bad so it sold well/poor". pointing at b2w2 selling like shit and saying HOW DID THIS HAPPEN!?!?!? is like pointing at dream land 3 or thracia 776 or some other super late snes game and asking the same thing
>>59265653This. GF was fucking stupid to try to do a reboot on a dead console. I am from the DS generation and by the time BW came out, no one cared about Pokemon anymore. People moved on to Xbox and CoD. BW still only sold 2 million less than DP which is a normal decline while XY sold only a million more than BW despite being the first gen on a new console. Overall Gen 5 is not as huge of a flop as people make it out to be but isn't exactly highly successful either. A lot of it is tied to being so late in the DS cycle.
>Gen 5 wasn't bad it just uuuh was released at a bad time ;_; Please gnore the fact that literally everyone and their grandma owned a DS...
>>59265346>not even a million sales less than XY and SM is the undisputed dark ageLol. The real dark age was gen 3. Fucking massive drop off from pokemania age and gets mogged by its immediate successor
>>59265689yeah but they were all sitting in a desk drawer collecting dust after everyone got tired of brain age 5 years before it released
>>59265689You know that just because everyone had a DS doesn't mean that people keep playing them forever right? If you were a middle schooler when DP came out, you were already in high school when BW was out. No one was playing a DS in 2011 unless you were getting bullied in school.
>>59265653This is what happened with me. When I was a kid gen 4 was the current one and by the time gen 5 came out I was already kind of bored with pokemans so I never got into it. Plus the anime sucked and the new pokemans looked weird. Now it’s my favorite gen tho
>>59265694>>59265698If that was true, people also would've dropped the Switch years ago and SV would've sold less than SwSh. But that's not the case. You're huffing copium.
>>59265346your methodology is flawed because it's not taking into account the fact that the world population has grown by over 2 billion people since Gen Iinstead of considering absolute sales you should consider what portion of the global population bought itother than that it's flawless tbdesu
>>59265718honestly they released sv at the perfect time to release it, thats when switch sales were at their peak, ds sales were not at their peak in 2011, very far from it in fact
>>59265718SV is a different case because no Pokemon game ever had this many years to build on their sales. Its been the most recent mainline game for many years now on a console with an abnormal attach rate. Sure the DS sold around the same as the Switch but you can compare the highest selling games on both and see that DS players were not buying a lot of games while Switch players buy every slop Nintendo puts out.
>>59265718At the end of the day both Gen V and VI are stagnant sales wise and irrelevant but you are trying to sell Gen VI as a success when only less than a million people have played that game over BW. The only really successful gens are I, II, VIII and IX. However Gen V has been getting rediscovered by Zoomers and is being consistently brought up in best gen discussions which is why you are fuming. XY will never get that type of new appreciation even though they just released Z-A last year.
>>59265370>Motherfucker, attrition rate has ALWAYS been a factor in vidya, going back to the EARLIEST days of home vidya... And normalfags are the demographic most likely to buy a game and not finish or play it. Thanks for so valiantly proving ny point.
>>59265485wow almost like bringing in outside franchises isnt the point.
>>59265346This is your brain on capitalism
>>59265698Funny you say that, when every friday in school, we all brought our DS and played games with each other
gbc-no gamesgba-no fucking gamesds-dsi-no fucking games3ds-lol, lmao evennswitch-has gamesif anything then real numbers are right now on switch, because literally every handheld before was fucking atrocious
>>59265346Go back to xitter normalfag.
>>59265867No. I WILL stay without lurking and make an impression on board culture
Critics will say that Galar only sold well because of the Switch Effect. Is it cope?
>>59265875Consensus fagotry is in direct opposision of what 4chan is.
>>59265892I liked galar because of the gigantamaxxing
