The plates are the shards of Its egg, That's why there's multitudes of it, big egg, tiny tiny shards after the battle between Arceus and the "giants". But for Pokémon to gain and share the powers of the defeated giants shared among the plates, the giants need to be nothing but elemental monsters. Nothing else works with the lore in the released games (which is the only source that matters, despite teraleak being interesting as fuck to see how they got from initial stages to final release).
