Theres a scene in the movie where Piplup touched Zorua's tail when he transformed into Dawn to dispell Zoruas imperfect illusion, Zorua is around the same size as Piplup normally so unless Zorua actually transform into dawn then piplup should not be able to dispell the illusion the way it did do to hight difference.

We also see that she is restricted to that forms speed when running with Ash after he saves her and when she delivers him the picture at the end. The glasses aren't really an indication of it not being a form considering they could do legitimately everything the pair needed, such as expose their cloaking, transmit their position to their Pokemon, and identify heat signatures.
