Is pokemon evolution supposed to be just growth stages? Or is it literal evolution? If it's the latter, then why do pokemon eggs always produce the first stage of a pokemon line?
I think most people already agree Pokemon evolution is closer to metamorphosis than the theory of evolution. Evolution sounds cooler and more permanent, and in a way not EVERY mon needs to go through metamorphosis so the method of triggering evolution is usually instigated by the trainer directly. Not all the time, I still don't know how wild Steelix can exist, but it gets the point across of a growth change
>>59274607>how can there be a baby NidoqueenThese are literally clones made by Mewtwo. What kind of stupid question is that.
>>59274607>Is pokemon evolution supposed to be just growth stages?no>Or is it literal evolution?noyou evolve via experience, ie training and becoming stronger, it has nothing to do with age
>>59274607Maybe this could happen if you took an exceptionally small Nidoran and used an evolution stone on it immediately after it evolved.
>>59274630>I still don't know how wild Steelix can existMy (admittedly, probably retarded) headcanon is that over time, Onix and Scyther can coat themselves in metal in the wild, but it takes time, whereas trainers can use Metal Coats themselves and the trade is a catalyst for the evolution to happen much quicker
It’s metamorphosis
>>59275137facultative metamorphosis to be precise
>>59274607It's neither of those. It's not ageing and it's not like real-life evolution either, although the latter does seem like it could affect the Pokémon kind of Evolution in the Pokémon world. A Pokémon Evolving is a Pokémon transforming from to a different species of Pokémon. A Pokémon could live a full life having never Evolved. A Pokémon could be a one hour old and have Evolved twice. For Baby Pokémon, they just don't mature at all unless they Evolve, so they can just stay Baby Pokémon for their whole life if they want.
>>59274630Same way pythons exist in the everglades.
Pokemon can live their entire lives without ever evolving. Reaching their final form is supposed to be something rare that only the strongest achieve in the wild.Having a trainer accelerates their growth.
>>59274607It's a kind of metamorphosis to make ones body more suitable for battling; either through battle experience or outside influence like stones or environment. It's a corruption of the Japanese term "Sinka"しんか / 進化 which means progression to the next stage, though its also used in regards to the theory of evolution.
>>59274607"Evolution" is just growing older.A Vulpix is a young Ninetales.A Ninetales is an old Vulpix. They are the same species.Everything else is bullshit.
>>59275669There are several examples of elderly Pokemon who never evolved.
>>59274607Started off ass growth stages and then turned into Digimon
>>59274607Why do retards think the word "evolution" refers uniquely to Darwinian evolution?
>>59275346You're not a real baby Pokemon, Teddiursa.
>>59275669Wartortle canonically live for centuries before becoming Blastoise.Keep your headcanons to yourself
>>59274607That's the kind of really bad liberties the anime used to take. Thank goodness they don't do it anymore.
>>59274607It's not just stages of growth, more like stages of power and benchmarks, not all Pokemon reach them. You can have stage 1 Pokemon become adults and make eggs because they never reached the requirements to evolve. Most Magikarp die as Magikarp for example.
