Mega Pyroar was divine punishment for all the crying and maulding over Flygon not having a mega evolution.It's sole purpose was to "waste" a so-called slot as perceived by whiny Pokemon fans who would also while about Altaria and Audino having mega evolutions and not Flygon instead. Having +20 to all stats that can be altered by Mega Evolution instead of having a good allocation of stats while also potentially having a worthless ability further rectifies the existence of Mega Pyroar only to trigger Pokefags, meaning that the Pokemon succeeded at its intended goal.

It was done to give the lions a fighting chance.

>>59275107Pyroar and Meowstic are two Pokémon where they really should have broken the rule they seem to have of Pokémon with Gender Differences not retaining them when Mega Evolving. They should have given them separate Mega Forms for Male and Female as for Pyroar and Meowstic their Gender Differences are quite pronounced, especially for the latter which they must have realised they couldn't just base Mega Meowstic's design of one either the Male or Female so they kinda mashed the two together for the Mega which is stupid. But Mega Pyroar doesn't even get that, it's so obviously based on Male Pyroar. Then to top things off, both Mega Meowstic and Mega Pyroar are lazy designs. It goes to show how they generally don't put much thought into how things will affect the future, because those just are the Megas for those Pokémon now but they don't seem to care, so they just made what they made in the moment.
