We're entering gen 10 and to this day there is still only ONE (1) hippo pokemon line. Had to wait until gen 4 too. How comes? Are hippos not popular in Japan?
>>59275292Dolphins are popular and it took them NINE gens, be thankful this intimidating river horse got a weather setter
>>59275312Lanturn in part was inspired by Dolphin tho
>>59275292Hippowdon is pretty much all you need, unless you want a water-type hippo. His design is peak hippo, and it’s cool that each gender is a different color
>>59275344>unless you want a water-type hippoJust Soak it.
>>59275292i'd rather have another stingray pokemon instead
>>59275292We're nine generations into a Japanese franchise and we still don't have a Bake-Danuki. We do have the real-life animal representative in Zigzagoon (Raccon dog), but not the mythological shapeshifting version. The closest thing physically to the folkloric Bake-Danuki is a Sentret. For example, we have a red fox in Nickit, but the kitsune is represented by Zoroark and Ninetales. The same goes for a large number of famous yokai, such as Jorogumo, Rokurokubi, Tsuchigumo, Amabie, and the classic Kasa-Obake.
>>59275615Funnily enough Belly Drum is actually inspired by this yokai. One of those weird cases of the inspiration not being directly represented with a mascot
>>59275337this has never made sense and you're a retard
>>59275312We had Kyogre since gen 3, you sillybilly
>>59275615>The closest thing physically to the folkloric Bake-Danuki is a Sentret.Ability Magical Leaf: The Pokémon with this ability changes form at the start of battle, reverting to its true form when it loses 50% of its HP.HA: PranksterUnlike Zoroark, this Pokémon transforms into objects; its type depends on the object it transforms into.
>>59275676>Ability Magical Leaf:uhhh... there's a move named magical leaf already
Where’s my vinegaroon Pokémon
>>59275292There's not much Mythology regarding Hippos in Japan, nor some type of belief or superstition when it comes to them.Gamefreak loves making animals that have some type of quirk regarding history, mythology, culture or belief, even the most basic creature have some type of outworldly reference most of the time.
>>59275292shaky thread
>>59275691How about Super Leaf?
>>59275521same
This thread is like a Solar Beam, it's charging on the first turn.
>>59276757And he already lost
Obsessively screaming about and thinking about your boogieman every waking second of your life totally unprovoked is schizo lolcow behavior. You are totally unable to stop replying and stop thinking about your boogieman, but no one feels the same about replying to you.
>>59276820Summoning successful.
'pic thread
Seething so hard he replied to that post multiple times. He's totally unable to not reply. He's that mind broken.
Posting about hippos in this thread is on-topic
>>59276820So why did you make a last word reply here? >>59276795
>>59276838>>59276820Passive aggressive posting style
Why does God hate hippos?
God is taking a break
Asshurt clown replied six times to one post and STILL won't address what's said to him.
>>59276855You do still post here the tripcode is just banned. But you obviously ban evade. Unlike "ack" who was never real in the first place, and you make a thousand posts a week about them totally unprovoked.
>>59276947>>59276945You are still replying, ack.
There is a whopping 2 hippo species and one is just a smaller version of the other, there is not much to work with. What we really need is a nice desman pokemon.
>>59276964there are tons of myths and legends, as well as modern incidents involving hippos, there's tons of material. GF will make anything a pokemon nowadays so saying>urr it's too haaarrrrrdis retarded. They should make one poseidon themed, because water horse.
>>59275292Are you forgetting the Slowpoke line
>>59276998not a hippoI don't care what bulbapedo says
>>59276820Meds
>>59275676>Two large ball-ended fat tails near its crotch
Hip?Hip-hop?HIP HOP A LOTTA MUS?YOU GIVE HIM THE EASY ONES!
lol
Is God still playing hard to get?
>>59277859>>59276796
Hippowdon used Earthquake
>>59276998>>59277000It's a radioactive iguana, no joke. Slowpoke is based on a kaiju from Ultraman, very popular in the 70s and 80s. As always, a lot of G1 lore is hidden from the Western viewer; basically, it's the creators' childhood.
>>59278742A lot of Gen 1 mons would never get made today because of how popular and professional the franchise has become. Like Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee. Ironically Gen 1 was the pokemon clover of its time.
>>59278755I'm surprised how people think designs like Gengar are super original. What's happening is that you didn't grow up immersed in 80s Japanese pop culture. Pokémon isn't original; it's a great satire of many elements of its time. Even the concept of capturing monsters and making them fight in a video game was already a very common idea before Pokémon was created.
>>59278837I would argue it's nowhere near a satire, and is instead genuinely just reusing these themes and ideas. It was never particularly original, but that doesn't mean it was a satire. We've known for decades how much of a hack gf can be, so simpy saying that they took a bunch of existing material and made things similar to it is totally in-line with what they'd do even now, imo.
>>59276882he deeply regrets killing off sea sloths and he takes his grief out on hippos like they're the disappointing son he wished died instead
>>59276820lol
