Gen one and two are interesting because they are the only non-formulaic main games. Gen one was the original and was designed in a vacuum as a discrete game and gen two was a rushed sequel that could have just served as the end point for the games if they didnt keep going.

I think autists who came of age playing gen three and after struggle with understanding that the first two gens were developed outside of the modern cookie cutter assembly line process that prioritizes appeasing the anger of the autistic fanbase by being as predictable and rote as possible (though GF has clearly been slowly trying to break this with gen eight and after).

No. Catching Pokemon was the most boring shit ever. I do not miss mashing A to throw 99 Ultra Balls at a paralyzed 1 HP Lugia and still not catching it.

IVs were always a thing grandpa. Stat exp was more straightforward but also irreversible if you wanted to minmax attack or speed and much grindier than EVs.

Every Pokemon that evolves by a stone could be traded back to Gen 1 by the fourth gym. At most you might have to wait until you get to the move deleter in the 8th Gem to do so.
