Outside of Starters, Staraptor, Lucario and Garchomp, Sinnohmons that aren't evolutions of prior mons are shitmons. Adding shitmons isn't necessary unless they fill a niche, and we've already had a lot of classic RPG niches filled by Kantmons, which is why Sinnoh (and unsurprisingly, Johto and Hoenn) filled a lot of their routes and dungeons with the same Kantomons that fit those original nichesThe real problem was Masuda locking all of the new evos to the post-game, which suffocated the main game's variety significantly because it only had less than 150 Pokemon to work with and the type diversity was piss poor. People clown on Fire only having Ponyta as an option, but Electric only has Luxray, Raichu and Pachirisu which isn't better at all. Even Volkner doesn't use PachirisuRS cut nearly half the Pokemon in existence for no reason (200/386), but DP didn't even use a third of the whole dex for its main game (150/493). This is just proof Masuda legitimately did not know how to incorporate the amount of new Pokemon added to each game and just cut corners to keep things easier to program since he's a man with zero ambition for true growth
it's crazy how many sinnoh mons were locked behind weird requirements. It feels like apart from the meme standard sinnoh team you really only get gen 1-3 mons. Kind of feels like kalos, in that way, especially with so many of the cross-gen evos being handled similarly to mega stones: you just kind of can't use them til post-game, for the most part.

When I was a kid, I did 3 playthroughs with all the starters and had different teams for each one.Though, I did have to trade them in as eggs, including a Chimchar with ThunderPunch.
