started a new playthrough of these after a decade. i had mostly been playing romhacks until these and boy these did not hold up well
>half the trainers in the game use ratatta or zubat lines
>every gym or boss is using a joke team except misty, ai is fucking terrible across the board as well
>mon variety is dogshit, all of the best pokemon for a playthrough are before or shortly after the 2nd gym
>literal joke level up learn sets, many pokemon not getting stab or shit like poison sting unless you waste a tm on them
>basically no items to find anywhere, even berries are rare
>no exp share till fuschia but the level curve is so fucking bad you dont even need it. it's impossible to not be 10+ levels up on enemy trainers even when switching
>can't trade (with hoenn or orre), breed, or use any gen2/3 pokemon until the post game (even if you meet the requirements for the evo)
>no macho brace until after the fucking 8th gym, by which point your main team is far beyond the point of no return with EVs
>no real battle facility despite being 2 years after rs, so even if you go out of your way to ev traain or breed for ivs/nature there is NOTHING to fucking use your competitive mons on
>random version differences like leaf green's game corner prices being significantly lower for no reason

how the fuck do people enjoy playing these?

Congrats Anon, you just realized you played a Junichi Masuda game

>>59282495
even some of the worst romhacks are more fun than frlg
>>
>>59282487
Wait you cannot get crobat until you beat the game?

They cost less due to the level of the Pokemon you receive being lower. For example in FireRed it costs 9999 coins for a level 26 Porygon, while in LeafGreen it's 6500 coins for a level 18 Porgon.

Not just beat the game but catch over a third of the Pokedex in a game that introduced more version exclusives than the original and barred you from catching Mewtwo until after you do the Hoenn trading post-game quest
>>

this doesnt excuse the difference

it was the first pokemon game I played so it's mostly nostalgia to me

I've always felt like pre-gen 6 games had a slow drip of "Pokemon reveals", each new Pokemon a trainer used or you found in the wild was exciting exactly because there were less of them, games like XY having infinite variety also made each area feel less memorable.
>every gym or boss is using a joke team except misty, ai is fucking terrible across the board as well
As always Pokemon is never hard, but this one still had some oldschool JRPG aspects like actual dungeons that would wear you out.
>literal joke level up learn sets, many pokemon not getting stab or shit like poison sting unless you waste a tm on them
Gen 1 also could learn tons of TMs though, especially because they had few mons at the time they were also generous with TM learnsets. Looking forward to getting TM X so you can use in your Pokemon was a vital part of team building. No need to save those TMs since you aren't going to play this competitively or whatever, just have fun and use everything you have.
>basically no items to find anywhere, even berries are rare
TMs are an important part of exploration, but the game also has tons of hidden items that will make your life easier. The OG didn't have berry trees so it's understandable why FRLG wouldn't have that as a focus as well, and honestly? Other than the occasional PP berry/Sitrus/Lum Berry they really aren't a vital part of the experience in a casual playthrough.
>can't trade (with hoenn or orre), breed, or use any gen2/3 pokemon until the post game (even if you meet the requirements for the evo)
You don't need gen2/3 pokemon, the Crobat situation is silly but other than that I have no problem with only offering Kantomons in a Kanto remake.
>no macho brace until after the fucking 8th gym[...]
Wanting to EV train in a normal playthrough is so fucking tryhard lmao

I immersed myself into the world, roleplayed as a young chad wanting to become the Champion, enjoyed raising my flying team, won the Pokemon League, injected the wondercards to catch Deoxys, Lugia and Ho-oh and moved on. I loved it.

>how the fuck do people enjoy playing these?
The vast majority of /vp/ is absolutely dogshit at Pokemon games. Once you realize this, a lot of the retarded takes on here suddenly make sense.
>>
>>59285141
>random seething about XY
yep, this is a disingenuous retard post

>Play Pokémon Fire Red
>Open PKHeX
>Hack in an adamant Absol with 31 attack IVs and 255 attack Evs
>Laugh at the dumb Absol because due to the physical special split it cannot use dark type stab with its 130 attack base stat.
>Go back into PKHeX again
>Delete Absol again
>ALT+F4, leave my computer and carry on with my day.
>>

>how the fuck do people enjoy playing these?
they don't, all the people who bitch and moan about how boring kanto is are the ones who grew up playing FRLG instead of the originals
