I haven’t played a new Pokemon game since Ultra Sun. I haven’t beaten a Pokemon game since X. Whenever I want to play Pokemon I just make a new game on something on GBA or DS that I’ve had since I was a kid. I have a Switch but don’t have any Pokemon games for it and honestly I got it cheap used just to play Metroid Prime remastered and that’s all I’ve done with it. My ten year old has been asking for Scarlett for his Switch Lite, I bought him a copy and while at the store I bought Violet for myself because I have fond memories as a kid playing Pokemon with my uncle where he’d buy the version I didn’t have. I have begun playing Violet as my first new Pokemon game in ten years and I’ve got to say for all the shit Scarlet and Violet have gotten I’m really enjoying it. I’m still a nostalgic sucker for older games but that just because I grew up with them, but I’m having a lot of fun with Violet and he’s having a lot of fun with Scarlet and it’s been cool being able to play Pokemon together with my son and bonding over playing it blind. If I’m enjoying Violet does this mean I’ll absolutely enjoy Legends Arceus?Thank you for reading my ted talk.

>>59285759I've played and beaten every single mainline Pokémon game (and most spin-offs) that has come out since 1999, and I agree that SV is shockingly fun despite its issues. The online hate campaign against it was extremely forced and astroturfed, people were just jumping on the hate bandwagon to shower each other with worthless internet clout and (You)s despite never having played the game, or most other Pokémon games really. Like it obviously has grating issues, mostly in terms of graphics and performance, but that's just a small aspect of any game. People just looked at it in the most superficial way possible and screeched about it online for attention.>Legends ArceusI'd be careful with it because it has a pretty different formula from the usual mainline games. It depends a lot on what you enjoy about SV. PLA focuses way more on looking for mons and catching them, battles are pretty secondary. Catching mechanics are pretty different, too. It's also exclusively singleplayer. But if you like exploring and catching shit, you'll probably like it. Story is pretty cool too.

Again they could go further with the base here but even in such a "primitive" state it's already addictive.I don't think an open-world approach works for every game but it works for Pokemon because they can fill every nook and cranny with monsters and that by itself is a reward, it werks.
