Or Wonder News for that matter
>>
The same reason they don't do a lot shit they need to. They're lazy.
>>

Colosseum killed the appeal Altering Cave would've had.
>>
Because TPC cried colo was going to be rendered useless.
Mind, TPC ACTUALLY thought locking shit to game cube games would boost gamecube sales. Glad they learned their lesson, only Game Freak made games boost sales (shit, look at pokopia mogging everything Ishihara did, while matching everything Iwata did).
>>
Gamefreak does not do extra work, they barely even do the work they're supposed to do.
>>
Masuda's a hack fraud and thinks people actually tune into events. But back then you had to fucking travel just for shitmons while post-DS at least has the decency to just be online shit. Imagine if they DID actually release Altering Cave and you had to travel to fucking New York for a Houndour. Gen III is such a fucking mess
>>

Thinking it over I wouldn’t be surprised if the failure of the Pokemon Center New York was why North America never got them.

Wonder News being there would make sense and it did events that swapped out daily or weekly in a series all the time. The Altering Cave event probably would have been a machine there, but that place failed shortly after FRLG
>>
>>59288280
They gave up.
>>
Because those are all in the expanded safari zone
>>
>>59288280
they should have addressed this in the switch re-releases
>>
>>59288994
They should have made it change every time you beat the Elite 4 or something like that.
>>
>>59288928
Yeah, they'd probably rotate them automatically once a week or so.
>>
>>59289235
That’s how they handled stuff like the event move eggs (Wish eggs) or the swaps during Gen 2
>>

Anon, Japan never got Altering Cave either. It was just straight up never used and if it wasn't datamined to find out that all the popular Johtomons were held hostage here, nobody would ever have even known what this shitheap was for. Gen III ended too soon for the event to really be released, Emerald came out the same year as JP FRLG (since it missed the Holiday deadline) and had all the mons that Altering Cave was hoarding anyway

They were a fucking mess during this generation. The DS was able to salvage so much of their shit tier decisions thanks to the online. Pokemon probably would've started to fail harder if online didn't make events so much less of a hassle given how much stuff they kept hoarding behind them

I actually agree. Gen III issues were not the mons or even Hoenn (though do unironically hate its water routes). Its this stuff like trying to force you to own a gamecube game or how a lot of Johto shitmons became a rare commodity. It did not matter they were shitmons as a kid you wanted them because they were so rare.
>>
For something like this to work youd need a dedicated lengthy set up, not something you could get for a short retailer event or one of the many expo tours. So it would have probably been at the Pokemon Centers. The one in New York shut down less than 6 months after FRLG reached America and before Emerald came out so that would have ruined that. That doesn’t explain why Japan didn’t get an event for it at their places though.

It can’t be Emerald existing because they brought Altering Cave back

Pokemon Emerald ALSO had Altering Cave, it’s on Route 103 post game
>>
>>59289501
Emerald Altering Cave had slightly different encounters. They were the same mons, but had a chance of holding rare items.
>>
Gamefreak not making all pokemon available short of legendaries and mythicals was why action replays were so popular.
>>
Something worth noting is even excluding the Johto Starters, you couldn’t catch them all in RS/FRLG even if Altering Cave had happened.

Miltank, Sudowoodo, the HootHoot line, and the Granbull line werent there

Which is odd, didnt the missing pokemons also have unused sprites in the games' code?
>>
There’s a guy in Cerulean next to the Poke Mart who complains about nothing good on TV who was supposed to report on Wonder News you received. It apparently saw a test use in Japan, but nothing in the west, though it probably would have been at the PCNY.

My guess is all of this was intended to be something similar to the online news Japanese Crystal had except done locally and then shared to your friends allowing it to spread. Like every month there would be a new news release from the machines and it would spread across the nation from friends mixing records or sharing the wonder card.

These are good things, the games were better when things were rare. You also can't look back at this with retrospective because nobody plays or thinks about games the same way or has the same resources or cares about the same things. This was something everyone liked and it's something I still like. Let things be rare and hidden and cool.
