People love to shit on those but I actually always enjoyed them, the Gym sets were my favorites because seeing the "real" Sugimori arts made them feel more legit, and I always thought the weird CG landscapes were super interesting. The stock art cards went to shit more recently though, ever since about... DP they've stopped putting effort into the backgrounds (plus the lack of watercolor is shit)

I take it back, several Gen 4 cards have the fun backgrounds, eventually they started just using geometric backgrounds instead of "real" photos. Neo and Gym had the best ones still imo, they're most interesting when someone has TRIED to do something with the art, N1 Donphan being zoomed in and half out of frame for example or the way lots of the Gym cards rotate/change perspective on the drawing.
