In my experience, if you want to play off-meta, you have to play REALLY off-meta. Unconventional, you have to hit them with strats they'd never anticipate.

Houndstone is weaker than Basculegion, but bulkier. But not SO bulky that it can serve as the same tier of attacker with Body Press. Its Defense is lower than Basculegion's Attack, and Basculegion gets STAB on its attacks whereas Houndstone doesn't for Body Press. Houndstone doesn't get any moves that boost its Defense either, like so many other Body Press users do.
His Attack stat isn't in the toilet, but it's lower than Basculegion's. So I think being a straight-up attacker is out if you don't want him to just be a worse Basculegion. He can't even be a faster attacker than Basculegion, because Basculegion has Swift Swim to match Houndstone's Sand Rush.

But you know what Houndstone DOES uniquely have? Trick.
Pair him up with a Tyranitar or Hippowdon with Sand Stream. With Sand Rush doubling his speed, plus a Choice Scarf, he'll have 264 speed even with zero speed investment. Enough to outspeed any mon in the game, mega or not, on Turn 1.
He can then use this speed to Trick the Choice Scarf onto one of the opponents (ideally the one who looks like it has more of a setup role instead of a damage role, or one who is already fast and thus would not significantly benefit from a Choice Scarf) and potentially cripple the opponent's game plan by limiting their options.
Even without the Choice Scarf, Sand Rush will still give Houndstone the ability to outspeed pokemon like Gengar if they don't have a +Spd nature.
For good measure, you can put Disable on him as well. In addition to being useful generally, it will also let you completely cripple the mon you tricked the Choice Scarf onto whenever he's on the field, by disabling his only move and forcing him to struggle.

It's really good as a second mega and bulkier than you'd think. Tournament teams like to go set up with nasty plot, but for ladder, scorching sands and pretty much constantly going offense have been really good for me. You just need to have a primary mega for rain and one support mon to deal with stuff like Gambit. Floette and Maushold work great. Also don't fall for the psyshock meme.

Focus-blast usually only does half.

Lead Umbreon Scovillian.

If the Pokémon next to Raichu is defensive, then you could foul play, Gigadrain the Raichu, and it dies.

If Raichu's partner is a physical strong attacker, then I usually baby-doll-eye it and protect Scovillian for moody rng. Usually, Raichu fakes out there but it's fine if they attack Umbreon (most of the time). Next turn you baby doll eye the attacker again or you moonlight. Then rage powder with Scovillian for burn and stuff.

If Raichu partner is a special attacker, then just snarl over and over again. It's literally unkillable against a special attacker. Rage Powder Moonblast if they keep focus on Umbreon. You can even switch to Basculegion on a Focus Blast, then Aqua Jet them, and it'll kill Raichu in the 80% range.

But all above is against greatball/ultra ball raichu so idk what the actually good player.

It's not a series of coinflips or getting lucky, it's about foundational knowledge of mons and sets then choosing the play that benefits you the most.

I run farig purely to fuck over trick room teams since you can click Imprison, and now the opponent cannot click hyper voice, protect, and most importantly, trick room.
It works if you really see a team that can only function in trick room, but when you do, its literally broadlight rape.

If you just played through SV including the DLCs, you basically have an in game pokemon genner.
The item printer gives you every item for free, so between that and Home, you have access to 99% of mons you ever want right now.

Pelipper is there because of the ungodly amount of Sun teams I’ve been facing recently that snowball out of control really quickly (Zard Y, Pyroar, occasional Meganium). One Weather Ball, Heatwave, etc. and most of the team dies on the spot. In hindsight though I’m wondering whether TTar might be a better option.
Incin spread is from the start of the format but I’d found works decently well. Allows it to outspeed most other Incins and the rest is for bulk for it to support and pivot.
Rotom Mow is there for when I need to will-o-wisp something (usually Garchomp or Basculegion) and Mow specifically in case I run into the odd Swampert.

I guess the two of us should elaborate a bit on why we specifically narrowed down on the pelipper.
To cut a long story short, pelipper sucks. He generally is an enabler for rain teams and setup tailwind, thats it. If your team dont need rain specifically, you dont run it, and would rather have A-Ninetales for a free agent weather setter instead.
Looking at the team repository, megagross teams either lean in heavily into the rain aspect, outright playing swampert as their other mega. Or playing rotom wash for the charizard matchup, which frees you to take better grass types like sinistcha or tsareena for the swampert matchup.
If you take anything from my yapping is that we just dont see the cohesion in your team, since you are playing it like a jigsaw puzzle, which is fine, but metagross himself is hard carrying and need better support
