Overall, supporter stocks have gone down with each set with more and more viable items and tools taking deck slots. Not to mention the addition of stadiums. On top of that by the time you actually want to swing in with M Absol your opponent has probably used most of the trainer cards they need anyway. Absol isn't really your attacker ever in dark decks. But it's just good enough with is supporter stripping that it's worth the risk of using.

Any dark basic that's good would easily replace absol/sableye in either the hydregion deck or the zoroark one. Unfortunately there's not a single basic dark type worth using in that spot.

sceptile with butterfree seems pretty good as a concept but i don't like that list. the deck is ride or die on caterpie being in the lead turn 1, if you don't get that quick evolution you're almost guaranteed to lose. i swapped ogerpon for x speed and it feels a lot better, the deck already does well into sleep if you get the turn 1 caterpie and you're going to lose to blaziken 99% of the time regardless so burn isn't relevant either.

You miss critical OHKO and 2HKO on all of those targets forcing you to waste an extra turn trying to deal with them letting your opponent have more time to dig for answers. Munchlax is a good card. Having a draw engine that will most likely survive at least one hit and not require any energy is super underrated. You're giving a point, as with all babies, but this guy can get your stage 2's out very fast in the process before it goes down.

Feel free to replace balloon with x-speed, they functionally exist as the same thing really. X-speed has the slight advantage of being useful for Greninja, but that hardly matters most of the time. Or sometimes cape on Oricorio may make you wish you had x-speed on it as well.

But balloon is more aesthetically pleasing and survives a Copycat without risk of being wasted if the Copycat STILL doesn't get you a proper basic to swap into. Used to run this with Goomy, who's still useful here, but I've personally found the deck works better accelerating yourself rather than trying to slow your opponent (mostly cause all the current decks generate energies too fast or have too low energy requirements to really be hindered in the first place). Funnily enough I was even thiking of changing out Cape for Goomy just to make to increase the odds of getting a starting basic worth something, but having Froakie or Oricorio tank a hit or two usually isn't that bad. I like this archetype so will keep playing around with it.

Also reasoning for Giant Cape instead of Leaf Cape is somoetimes I need Oricorio or Munchlax to get that extra bulk instead, and the extra HP doesn't do much for Deceduleye aside from maybe getting it out of a Exodia Lucario combo. So I'd rather have the flexibility to give extra HP to supports as well if it buys me time to get my main attacker out, than get an extra 10 HP boost for a more niche scenario.

The thing is the sceptile feels more consistent because you can pivot into sceptile more easily, you don't need the sequencing as much because both Butterfree don't need to KO before bringing him in, and sceptile needs less energy to be online. Running the grass consistently cards really helps the deck because you can basically guarantee the deck will "do the thing", it's just wether or not it's good enough

I LOVE zoroark because it's my favorite hisuian pokemon, and the advantage of zoroark is that you DO hit higher numbers than sceptile, if you sequence it properly zoroark can be hitting 200. But it takes 3 energy, has less HP, and you absolutely need to sequence the Butterfree ko's properly before he can come in
