>I want to learn the game, where do I begin?
Download PTCGL at https://tcg.pokemon.com/en-us/tcgl
The game has a quick tutorial and a bunch of decent decks to get you started against other beginners or against the AI. Some of those decks are very close to meta too. You can also go to your local game store and see if people are playing Pokémon.

>I know how to play, how do I make my own deck?
You have a decent beginner's guide at https://www.justinbasil.com/guide
There's also the old /tcg/ guide at https://imgur.com/a/W4NkOu6
After that, look up meta decks and try to reverse engineer them to see how things work.

>Where to find meta decks?
For big irl events, go to https://limitlesstcg.com/decks
For online events, go to https://play.limitlesstcg.com/decks?game=PTCG
For japanese events, go to https://pokecabook.com/archives/1417

One of the biggest traits of the pokemon world is the resistance/weakness feature. To me it makes no sense that there are pokemon without them in the TCG.
Especially when some shitty ass ones have and the big, important and competitive ones dont.
Yes, this is in part about dragapult but also there are many others that only suffer from weakness and get no resistance, even when they clearly should have.
How about a dark ex pokemon without weakness then, TPCI?! Would that be fair?
>>
>>59455317
Muh fairness lmao. Get Phantom Dived, little bitch.
>>
>>59455317
You're right, Grimmsnarl should have no weakness
>>
>>59455317
If you are worried about weakness, just play water(water) or bird types in this meta where lightning is terrible.
>>
>>59454996

looks ok to me
>>
im tired of gengarslop there's like 3 gengars in the format right now print something else
>>
>>59455275
a tanky mill excadrill is what I've been thinking of trying out since the card was first revealed because theres a lot of healing support right now. It makes me wish the first attack did zero damage and milled an extra card instead
>>
>>59455536
It looks interesting to play with both gengars, like 4-3-2-2 or something like that.
>>
>>59455710
Sending 1 prize gengars to suicide destiny bond them while you target the bench is pretty toxic
>>
The new Bastiodon plus TEF Gengar feels like a pretty toxic energy control deck, but is it too clunky to work? You're relying on two stage 2s, a stadium and tools (handheld fan) to get the whole thing working and if you lose any part of it you're kinda fucked.
>>59455958
You would need a way to keep accelerating energy to the active, but if you don't care about those Gengars getting damaged then either Tox+Pecharunt ex or Janine works well enough. You just need the energy recyclers to get them back into the deck each time you lose a Gengar.
>>
>>59455317
Weakness is the poorest designed mechanic in the game IMO. It feels like a hotfix solution if a certain card gets too powerful instead of coming up with better ways to beat it. It also sucks that there's no ways to remove it. My main decks are Garchomp and Zoroark so having unfavored matchups into most of the meta is rough. The fact that these grass decks aren't even favored into Dragapult is just punching down.
>>
File: blend energy.png (309 KB, 527x407)
309 KB PNG
>>59456241
Flat dmg weakness like pocket just feels utterly useless much like resistance. 2x is good but can feel way too oppressive at times
2x would be less an issue if every type had a good deck, then they can all counter each other like the actual games. but some types just suck and then they're bullied by weakness even more. dark loses to grass but there's no fire decks around to bully the grass, so dark just suffers. water being irrelevant in the meta means lightning is useless and lightning loses to all the fighting around as well so it doesn't have a niche both ways

I'd like to see more blend energy again to introduce 2 type to decks to cover their weakness. Not rainbow energy that's too universal and boring. Few decks actually use multi type anymore it's all monotype really now so weakness feels oppressive
>>
>>59456443
You're so right, that would definitely help with things. Most of the time I appreciate the challenge but matching Festival Lead as Garchomp and having to rely on opponent's dead draw instead of skill is so lame.

(maybe 1-1 dudun?)
4 poffin, 3 pokepad, 3~4 ultraball, 2 stretcher, 2 air balloon, 1 energy switch, 1 switch

And Xerosic supporter, quite the troll sometimes but usually its not a game changer. Anyone with a lot of cards in hand and not using them probably had a dead hand anyway. The later the game the more likely the opponent will simply keep their win-con cards and ditch the rest.

Pult doesn't rely on hammers, they are a freebie as they cost virtually nothing (card advantage is almost limitless on pult).
The real power play is noir into red card, that fact you decide when to decimate your opponent's hand is really powerful. Also I have seen most lists include a rare candy for a quick noir or even offensive pult.

I'd rather run no hammers and add another budew, another munki or a moltres (pick 2 according to local meta)
Another option is if there are too many pults around then remove the candies and complete the hammer playset.
Also I prefer running ruins over jamming tower.

a lot of them use tools so i opted for jamming tower

>And get destroyed by Starmie and Greninja after rotation
Does anyone actually play these? I only do to get the PTCGL dailies, otherwise they are kind of jobberish. The only way you have a chance is if your opponent bricks their first 2-3 turns.
>>
>>59459904
We'll see after the rotation. Marnie's Grimmsnarl will lose Froslass, so both decks seem to be the only good options for spread.
>>
>>59459937
Not only Froslass, but Munkidori as well. Grimmsnarl is going to be garbage unless they reprint a spread aid, and going off of recent sets nothing good is ever going to be printed again.
>>
>>59459413
if you're properly playing the deck or you aren't dead drawing you should have a pult and at least a duskull in play by turn 3 which is fine because pult isn't an aggressive deck. just go first or use itchy pollen in the early game

>>
The 30th set honestly looks pretty strong, although I don't know that I've seen everything yet. Probably nothing that dethrones pult but there are things that will see play.
>>
I haven't found a single new deck that I actually enjoy playing. Sneak felt like a wash after realizing it has massive issues with draw power, Festival Lead just isn't fun, N's Zoroark is practically an auto-loss to every Grass deck, and Toucannon feels soft as baby shit. I really might just go back to playing Pult.
>>
>>59461358
>N's Zoroark is practically an auto-loss to every Grass deck,
I wish there was another Dragon deck on par with Dragapult. Weakness is my least favorite part of this game, so I usually end up playing Dragons if a good deck comes out.
>>
>>59461364
While I agree weakness is a shitty system and at the very least it should be an additive damage modifier and not multiplicative, dragon should 100% be weak to water in this game and it's retarded that it isn't.
>>
Dragapult having no weakness isn't the issue. Many decks can deal with 330 hp

>Have built in draw engine
>Lets you cheat in extra cards like hammers
>Draw engine is the best one in the game too
>Budew lets you slow them down while you abuse this draw engine
>Then you can exodia sweep their entire board with spread+ghosts in one attack
It's no different from lost box in that regard, you play it slow then wipe out all their resources

but the biggest and most obvious issue is

>They refuse to print any good new cards
Of course 3 year old cards will be the meta ones when newly released cards aren't even beating ones from a year or 2 ago
Gardevoir may have been oppressive too but they at least kept printing good cards after so the meta kept changing. That's not the case here. Storm emerald sucks. 30th celebration is a complete flop after seeing most the leaked cards. The meta simply will not change until Dec/Jan.

It's not even dragapults fault in this regard, it's the PTCI for doing such a poor job with designing new cards and yet people will defend them for reducing powercreep. At the cost of everyone suffering the same exact meta each year??!? I'd sooner want powercreep in an everchanging meta than a completely stale one that remains the same for the entire rotation

I guess it is good that they are printing a lot of cards that force you to play switches.
Mew-ex can copy stunfisk then unown to take 3 prizes on meowth (30+140).
Unown is pretty weak without munki or froslass damage.
>>
>>59461994
you can probably use this in decks that use psychic or prism energy to get 2 prize cards against budew
>>
So what qualifies the different condition rankings for cards like between heavily played, damage etc. I was going through my old original cards just to see the value of them and I get holographic cards being price but I have a bunch of Rare non holo versions of cards and when I look at the value it depends on the condition.

Example I have a rare non holo fossil Gengar and the damaged price is 9 USD but Mint is 95. Its certainly not mint condition seeing as its 25 years old but I wouldn't say its damaged

>>
Hear me out: mega starmie was a mistake, it should have been a mega scizor instead.
Same attacks, but metal instead of water.
First attack reminds me too much of Bullet Punch, and the shred on the second attack is literally Magnet Bomb (bypassing accuracy checks)?!
>>
>>59462603
Water mons are usually the snipe attackers. Scizors cards historically have been 3 archetypes
>Punishing opponents for having a certain effects (abilities/basic/special energy
>Taking reduced damage (typical steel type)
>Discarding energy/tools

Pokemon tend to keep to their identity gimmicks in the TCG. Like greninja is always doing some locking or sniping shenanigans. Gardevoir is always accelerating energy. Dragapult is always sniping the bench. Ho'ol is about reviving and multitype energies.
If you take the time to look at a pokemon you often see a common theme among their cards throughout history
>>
They should reprint gardevoir ex alongside her attackers and utility items to combat the pult dominance. Make her regulation h so she leaves at the same time as pult.
>>
>>59463029

>>59461206
I just net deck the highest placing pultnoir lists and maybe change one or two cards so my list is basically the same as ones you can find on limitless. As for the decks you mentioned I haven't played against some of them enough since they're more niche but the times I have played against them on ladder they seemed winnable. For zoroark it comes down to who the better player is because it's a 50/50 to slightly unfavorable for pult and you need to know the lines. For lucario it's fine if you can slow them down in the early or mid game and you don't open up meowth. Festival lead is an insanely easy deck to beat. TR mewtwo isn't too hard to beat considering how often they brick. As for shaymin if there's a lot of slowking or wellspring then yeah it's worth making space because it forces them to actually play the game. I wouldn't really use it for grimmsarl because it's more of a liability and what's more likely to be important is to have the munkidori advantage than stopping the 30 bench snipe but I could be wrong. You don't need jamming tower for any of these decks. Ruins like another anon mentioned feels much more stronger against them and in general right now
>>
slow players are genuinely the most annoying subhumans to the point that I would rather concede than deal with them, so I guess they DO win after all

>Hitting 220 for 4 energy seems garbage but I assume it was used in a different context
Lugia wasn't what you were attacking with, it was only there to summon two Archeops. Archeops let you meet otherwise impossible energy costs for free to use powerful attacks. You could attack with Charizard on turn 2 if you wanted.
>>
>>59463417
It evolves into lugia vstar, lugia vstar has an ability that lets you put any 2 colorless pokemon into play for free
You used that to put 2 archeops into play, archeops has an ability that lets you search your deck for 2 special energy and attach them to your pokemon. So you can attach 4 special energy a turn + manual attachment.
With how broken special energy were you could use any attacker you wanted.

Not that often unless it's a new deck I'm playing. I'm at the point in my main deck where I don't think I can justify changing anything in it that isn't just adding/removing a shaymin or something for some FOTM bullshit people are playing
>>
>Put new sleeves on deck
>Brick every other match for the first tourney
>Everything goes back to normal at the next tournament
This has consistently happening for the last 1.5 years that I have been playing pokemon tcg.
Outright peculiar.

I can explain, but it requires an open mind.
Objects can hold onto experiences and memories. Your old sleeves have soaked up all of the good luck and positive energy. The new sleeves are blanks, nothing has been written into them yet and they're not carrying any of your past successes. They don't know anything yet.
This is also why some people feel like they have a cursed or unlucky playmat.
>>
>dont play for a few weeks
>boot up live
>first match is into my worst matchup
lol

Indians have known this for millennia, the reason your ass gets imprinted on your chair is because of physical memories. How this affects luck is debatable but let's say stuff gets used to the way you play.

I'm going to worlds next month but I've been so out of practice since the regular league play ended after NAIC, surely there's something decent to play other than pult

Preparing for every single faggot I know to be running Darkrai or Excadrill for the next 6 months. Grimmsnarl already screws both decks up. How can I make it even better?
>>
>Bulk filler raikou got the SIR
>Not the actually playable mega malamar
i hate collector pondering i hate collector pondering

Yep, everyone is sleeping on mega darkrai but it easily one shots pult and it's trivial to charge up with toxtricity. And if you don't have bell in hand for some reason you can still boss up a supportmon and use dusk raid for guaranteed 2 prizes.
Also there is a secret tech running around using lysia appeal to cuck out kangaskhan abusers.
