Going to Japan mid-August any stores to look out for? Not really a priority but during downtime or hot days I'll look at card stores. Otherwise I'll just pick up packs up to the per customer limit from pokemon centers and rip them.

Specific stores probably depends on where exactly you are. There are plenty. My understanding is you want to get off street level and look for card shops on upper floors.
Can’t really remember what my experience was like. I went to a bunch of shops, sometimes chained like ten together. Back then, the market wasn’t extremely fucked though

Found my old pokemon cards my parents stored. Was wondering if its worth sending all my holos in to PSA? (I have more than in the pic). Been researching but I’m still pretty new to the whole thing.
>>
>>59469271

>>
>>59469271
People that are pretty new to finding their old cards do not use card savers.
>>
>>59469276
>>59469278
Yeah, only used card savers for a few of them unfortunately. Most were just sitting in a binder, which I’ve learned is not great.
>>
>>59469271
The top row is worth grading if you think they're in good condition. Personally, I dont like PSA though. They have the ugliest, worst quality, slabs. If you plan to sell them, go with PSA. If they're for yourself, search around for companies that have nicer slabs.

Sucks because I just bought and sleeved a bunch of them.
>>
>>59469271
If there are whites on the edges, the back of the card and the edges all across are teeny fucked don't bother

Dark Charizard = off-center, don't bother
Charizard (center) = crease line on the bottom, don't bother
Charizard (far right) = maybe PSA 6-8, bottom border is too yuge
Dark Garydos = off-center, don't bother
Promo Meowth = off-center, don't bother
Promo Pikachu = off-center, light visible damage on the center-right border, edges on the top left and bottom right are fucked, don't bother

PSA grading is like $80 per card and you won't see them again until this time next year, if you're planning to sell don't bother unless they're going to be 9 and 10s. Back then even PSA 6-8 Base Set Unlimited Charizards have value but nowadays vendors will only take PSA 9 and 10 Charizards.

Even PSA 9 Charizards will get lowballed to oblivion, imagine graded stuff lower than 9 for other cards.

Only if you're getting them graded, all grading corpos value perfect or near perfect centering.

If your stuff is mint to near mint, just put them in double sleeves, Cardboard Gold toploader and splurge on a decent toploader binder.

>>
>>59469396
Gotcha, thanks.
>>
>>59469436
Even before investorchuds and scalpershitters showed up centering was already a thing for PSA/BCG submissions.

Gen X and boomer dads who were clued in with MTG started taking care of their kid's collections. Even back then Shining Pokemon cost $1000+ raw.

Almost every kid had a Charizard, the real pulls were the Team Rocket, Gym Heroes/Challenge and Neo series. Skyridge was already expensive back in 2003 and most kids dipped out of the hobby and found Ruby/Sapphire to be ass.

Sam's Club just shit out a giant load of their Ascended Heroes boxes, last week. The same 10 guys, who just pay off the vendors/employees and buy out all the stock in their town/city, aren't able to stop ~144 people getting 28 AH packs at every Sam's Club simultaneously. So, a lot of the cards went directly to their intended customers. Granted, a bunch of those boxes just got put up for sale at $200 each too. Either way, a bunch of AH cards got put into circulation.

Full art Team Plasma Pokémon cards are super cool, but as a lore fag, I can't get over how many are legendaries from other regions that don't fit Team Plasma's story. I agree.
I keep my cards inside sleeves (perfect size are indeed "perfect size" for Japanese vintage cards) and toploaders, inside an ETB box (Champion's Path).
In the left size I keep ENG vintage cards, Black Star Promos and some modern cards (especially waifu cards), in the right side I keep vintage Japanese.
I don't even know how many cards are on each side, probably 25+, yet at this point I can pick a random card and guess it right.
I somehow keep it like a trophy box, I like when I look at my cards I also like to remember when I bought it, the reason why I bought it, if I had a conversation with the seller or not, etc.
>>
>>59471725
What an odd claim to make when its objectively easier to see the entirety of a card (front and back) in a top loader than it is in a binder.
I've decided it, keeping cards toploaded in a Kaiba-like briefcase is the better option. Binders are for plebs.

How much do UPC promos go for usually? Normally I'd just buy the promo separately but I think I can get the box at MSRP near where I live.

Desu conventions are far worse when it comes to WOTC raw cards, they're way overpriced and priced for boomers since zoomzooms don't really collect ancient Pokemon cards

Ebay and Whatnot are lesser evils in this regard

Always raid garage sales, especially in white/Asian neighborhoods since you're almost always going to encounter an old WOTC binder that could be had for like $100-$300 tops depending on quality and volume
>>
>>59472986
>garage sales
Is there a single person today who doesn’t “know what they got (no lowballs)” with respect to pokemon cards?
I used to find “deals” all the time, but the massive amount of hype in 2020 killed that. The great deals today are, like, 15% off recent low-ish prices.
>>
>>59472997
They only know Pikachus and Charizards, the rest are chaff even though other rares are not

You can always lowball on condition because ring binders/cheap binders = LP
>>
>>59473004
In my experience, normies think all old pokemon cards are worth their weight in gold, and they don’t have any eye for condition. Are people usually responsive to haggling based on condition?
And of course if you’re not dealing with normies, there’s no hope for a deal since they literally “know what they got.”
>>
>>59473014
In my experience they're willing to haggle just to get rid of stuff and not being a desperate scalper sperg/reseller goes a long way

I've encountered a boomer dad who wants to charge $1500 for a HP Skyridge Charizard because 'that's what he saw on Ebay'

I’m just now realizing how little I have of Neo Destiny. I’ve only got 4 of the holos (not counting the shining cards, I own all of those).
Could be the least I own of any WotC set, save for the terrible Gym sets, which I mostly skipped owing to their excessive use of stock art.

Should I double-sleeve? I want to start collecting and want to know the best way to store your cards.
>>
>>59473554
I double sleeve, which is probably autistic overkill, but it gives me “Peace of Mind” with respect to humidity and semi-waterproofing as well as keeping all the edges nicely enclosed
>>
>>59473573
Also, should I use penny sleeves or just normal sleeves?
>>
>>59473594
I recently started double sleeping. First a KMC perfect fit and then an ultra pro premium sleeve.

>>

this much effort for cardstock lol
just store them all in a single sleeve and in a deck box for flatness
>>

>>
>>59473725
overthinking sleeving or protection, its no big deal as long as it isnt severely dented or whatever
>>
>>59473630
You can do whatever you want just keep in mind the card clarity becomes foggy the more layers of plastic you put on. I dont personally think double sleeving does much and its mostly for if you're actually playing with the cards.
Between binder and toploader is also your preference. Binders keeps your cards in book format, you're typically going to keep toploaded cards in a box.

Cheating on customs fees is the fastest way the seller could get fucked, that's why none of them do it.

Yes
Double sleeve every card
Put them in toploaders
Put toploaders in a toploader binder

Would trading my paldean fates etb for either silver tempest or chilling reign plus cash a bad deal?

Every vendor at collectathon is 80% so $380 despite the etb selling for $450

I’m tempted to trade a etb plus $150 for silver tempest or $110-20 for chilling reign booster box
>>
>>59474484
>80%
Find a random kid and they'll bump it to 85%-90% for their Jewtube audience
>>
>>59474494
Nope every youtube cunt was hard on 80, some Arab looking dude was generous at 85%. Of course they’re not as generous when cameras are off

Anyways I might just trade in a paldean fates for chilling reign tomorrow since some jewtuber is shilling them
>>
>>59474496
>Nope every youtube cunt was hard on 80, some Arab looking dude was generous at 85%. Of course they’re not as generous when cameras are off
They're forced to be 'generous' when a kid shows up in their booth, hence why hire a random kid
>>
>>59474500
>incoming reddit space
ok I see what you mean. Now that you mentioned it, I didn’t see many kids with binders at this one today, just a bunch of grown men buying one piece

Not one vendor moving ascended heroes there was some fag selling the poster collection for $150. A lot of mega evolution, A LOT A LOT OF CHAOS RISING I laughed when I saw several vendors with stacks of this etb

Pitch black dead journey together dead evolving skies dead

Some guy told me some youtuber is hoarding chilling reign and trying to unload them so I may just grab a booster box for my etb
>>
im scared to go to these cons/mass vendor places because im too introverted and retarded to haggle and i feel like im going to get kiked either way
>>
>>59474531
They’ll fuck you no doubt. I’ve been fucked before when I first went but that’s unironically and no bullshit part of the experience and what makes you better at trading and selling. If you have a friend that’s good at talking to people, bring him along. Some of these vendors are scumbags so you have to rough them up a bit. Of course it helps if you have popular normalfag shit like anything charizard or crown zenith hits
>>
>>59474552

I think i can safely say the grift has gotten out of hand, you used to be able to get a holo base set 1st edition Charizard for $50 and that was considered very expensive beyond most peoples means, almost the highest priced item at the entire markets.
>>
>>59474555

There are a fuckton of Charizards, the first time Pokemon went bonkers in terms of collector pricing was during the Dark/Light/Shining Pokemon eras along with Gym Leader chase evos.
