Ive turned around on the new system a bit. I used to think it was really lame to do types instead of mon-of-the-week-style.
But now, I've done a 5 sweep win in my area for 3 weeks straight, and Im running outta mons that are actually sizable.
This "fuck it, spam random types and call it" really prevents XXL collectors like me from sweeping every week, as opposed to specific mons which I typically just won and had no risk of needing the winner a second time. Which honestly makes it way more accessible to folks.

I find myself using adventure effects with my candy a lot. Necrozma and Palkia candy is a bit feast/famine, so keeping the supply at something comfortable where I could quickly max a shadow hundo + give it a second move is how I roll. Just sitting in the office with nothin to do, its nice to activate something that'll give me a few mons to catch, and the stardust is pretty much free.
Getting a few extra mons is kind of a mid use of rare candies, but so is maxing out Celebi or Victini.

Yeah I usually don't bother either, I don't tank but I just have fun with whatever shit I throw together around the 2300 mark or something. I took a break for about 2 years and started playing again like a month ago, but I've been too busy to actually go out and do shit for the most part so I've been doing gbl more.
Had fun using runerigus on the way to rank 20, but once I got there and got put in ace the poor fella wasn't cutting it anymore, just too much shit that hit him.
Anyway gbl can be frustrating, but I do like how it gives certain pokemon that otherwise would amount to nothing their time to shine. Like my goat is charjabug of all things, I'm happy it's still pretty good (though discharge fucking sucks now).
Likewise I've been enjoying zweilous, but as I've been climbing there's been more and more tinkatons and what have you, probably won't be able to go much higher with this team (with my skill level anyway, I'm not learning how to count and shit like that) so I'm going to take it easy for now.
Sidenote but I took a look at ultra league because of the anon complainig above and wow does it suck. a team of 2500 combat power super effective mon, preferably with resistance so that they don't have to be revived as much. against weirddeer dark is effective so thats absols and against hisuan avalug fighting and steel are 4x effective so thats an army of lucario because force palm and aura sphere are that strong, you can tank the shit out of it with metagross with defensive steel typing but that ain't doing damage. machamp is the ol reliable fighting chip damage. the trick on solo is to know when its better to fire off a charged attack before fainting or if you can charge up two counts of charge attack which queues up the damage. depending on your device load speed you can also exit and reenter the fight after reviving your strongest mon for even faster battles.

I don't think anyone has empirically tested it. Niantic allegedly lowered the rates over time, but that also seems to coincide with growing encounter pools? I'm cautiously assuming it's just an even distribution

I used to have a note back when I played a lot during 2024, logging my encounters. In ~120 or so I only got one fucking legendary (torn), and this was AFTER I was sufficiently annoyed to even start logging this stuff.
Funnily enough I've started playing the game again since mid-july, and I've had 3 legendaries already, including a shiny lol. If I had to guess out of maybe 30 eligible encounters? Much better luck this time around.

Empoleon is THE ultimate Fairy Killer of Ultra League. Hard winning against nearly all of them (Florges included), but only soft winning against Togekiss and Mimikyu. If you have issue with any fairy, adding Empoleon is how you solve it

Volt Switch Foretress works wonders too, matching Florges' debuff strat to make it a net zero, and setting up for the next mon to come in to give you a debuff advantage. It's less "hard delete Florges" and more "utilize enemy Florges as a momentum generator", so depending on your team comp, it may actually perform better than Empoleon.

You can also match fairy with fairy with Tinkaton. Just as annoying for your opponent to deal with, and is able to come out on top against all fairies. Huge XL investment though for Ultra League

If Steels are feeling tricky to add to the team, Feraligatr works just as well. It doesnt win based on type advantage, just by being a raw beat stick with Shadow Claw for Mimikyu. It loses to Galarian Weezing, but can handle all other relevant fairies if you're finding yourself struggling against common steel answers as well

idk if pin and remove is still the right thing to do to get Scatterbug, but I do it anyways. It happens in a second, and this text over text is one of the worst desing overlay things I've ever seen in my life. That's one second to actually read the postcard and where my online friends are from and where they are at.
Look how much room there is for text, but nope let's put the two texts on top of each other.

I usually end up with 2 As and 2 Bs when I build.
Coverage is really the only one to really make sure you got handled, and even then, you can make it work if everything is just a soft loss across the board. Bulk in particular I don't want sometimes, because I don't really want to slow the game down all to much, and Consistency just means not using baits, which sometimes is more of a drag than fun.
That being said, Empoleon / Zygarde (Complete) / Lapras is a Quad A team. I feel like Annihilape would still be a huge issue, given your best answer is Lapras, but it is possible

After 431 routes + the 25 cells I got from that one pass, I’m done
Now time to grind cells for the shiny 10% Zygarde I’m going to get from the mega Zygarde event raids in 1.5 to 3 years from now.
You just now the raids will be hard as fuck just for the text to appear “some of Zygarde’s cells fled!” And like you have a small chance for it to be a 50% but you know damn well that you’ll never get it.
Bonus points on greed for Niatic for either you don’t actually get cells from the event/its behind a paid pass/ it gives you basically nothing

Every update it feels worse even against rocket grunts.
It's getting so bad it actually has a measurable impact on the outcomes of battles.

Basic example, Lucario with Force Palm attacking after interrupting a grunt (switch, faint, shield, or attack).
I can land two hits and pull off a charge move without the grunt attacking back.
But if I land three hits, the grunt is now getting two attacks in rather than just one attack because the lag and responsiveness is just that bad.

Yes, probably something like that. They might put Calyrex in raid circulation regardless and new players will wonder why the fuck they should bother with a Psychic / Grass type that has dogshit stats.
Necrozma, Kyurem, Zacian, and Zamazenta were all available long before their fusions.

In place of Reigns of Unity, they'll be some bullshit Unity Fusion Energy so Calyrex can mount each horse. The animation for that is going to look laughably bad and players that skip Willow's text are going to wonder why the fuck they needed that much energy for Short King to sit on a horse.

To make matters worse:

Also have you noticed grunts have started putting fully evolved Pokémon in their second slots more often? They have stuff like Sceptile, Blaziken, and Swampert on their second slot more often now. there's a gradual increase in grunt challenge that might increase over time.
Each Rocket Leader's second Pokémon is also much stronger than they used to be, and the picks are more meta and harder to plan around.

A good one can be convenient for finishing team leader practice battles quicker.
Some shadows are great for raids for their accessibility in powering up a number of them compared to powercreep legendaries.

Doesn't fix the general issue that one you've hit a strength threshold there isn't much higher to climb and no practical gains in doing so, outside of edge cases like "look mom I can solo Lunala".
I've personally done that, but it required Zacian's adventure effect for a 6 minute attack boost.
No amount of strength gains you can do can compare to just having a +1 in your raid attempt (provded it's not a shitter account).

I hate having full pokemon storage and having to clean that shit up.
