I tried to organize a tournament around Thanksgiving/Christmas last year, and we didn't have enough interest. I had +3 Cyrus, +2 May, +1 Copycat, +1 Lisia, and +1 DX Lillie on alts, in addition to 2 spare Oaks. M.doggo deck is Puppy Pile in steroids. Its sole purpose is punishing bricked starting hands. Except unlike Puppy Pile, it doesn't fall apart on turn 1 if you don't meet its win condition. Because it has an actual mid-game plan.

Oh, did you put 2 ponchos in your deck anticipating it? Don't worry, they'll be at the bottom of your deck every single time you queue up against M.doggo and his lizard buddy. It only needs 1 turn of splash damage so by the time you get your ponchos it's almost certainly too late.

It'll be the beset deck for ranked because it decides games on turn 1. Either your opponent realizes they lost on turn 1 and surrender or they lose by turn 4. The best kind of deck since this game is entirely 50/50 anyway so you may as well do the 50/50 coinflip win/lose shit as quickly as possible and move on. It's not a particularly fun deck, in fact I'd say it's one of the most boring decks in the game right now, but it doesn't matter because it wins or loses very fast.

Unironically Hoopa is better but only because it has dark support. Dark leans harder into early game pressure. Hitmontop is mostly there for pinging someone in the back while Hoopa normally deals 60 damage to the front and 20 to the back since it has support from hourglass and Darkrai. That hurts a lot more than you'd like when you're trying to set up. Hitmontop will rarely kill the front line before setting up for Lucario. Hoopa will likely hill the front line and pressure the back harder and faster. And Cyrus doesn't have to be exclusively saved for the finishing blow since just being in the frontline exposes you to more damage than the back, where Hitmontop it doesn't matter where you're positioned really.

That said, Hitmontop isn't a bad mon. Though I actually prefer Lee for the lower retreat cost.

No. Realistically you'll only get either Wally or Drayden up before the end of the game rather than both. And usually that means Wally just to get the FOUUUUR fucking energies for the attack. By then if you didn't win then Drayden will most likely make 0 fucking difference. So Wally is better, but the deck is still a bit too slow to work well. I tried using the new Drampa and it's okay, but it requires Drampa to stay alive way longer than he's built for most of the time. For Fug decks you just need Drampa to stall for Fug to get online, but for Dragonite it means you need to feed it 2 energies while also prepping a Dragonair in the back (easy once you get the flywheel going but still takes time to set up). You'll most likely have to run 2 Ponchos with this as well since Dragonairs are required to sit bench duty until filly charged up.

Overall it felt like it didn't work well, was still too slow. Maybe I try again but just ditching Drampa and going for Mantyke/Pichu instead. It's a non-EX deck anyway, so maybe it'd be fine.

They should have combined the effects of Poncho and that new pink veil item together. I don't care if it bloats the text box (not like we haven't already started to do that with this set). It's fucking ridiculous that sleep scam is still viable and prominent. And on top of it, we also have a TON of bench sniping to try countering. There's just not enough deck space to counter both. Having an item that covers bench sniping and status effects does feel pretty OP under normal circumstances but it's their fucking fault for making sleep so fucking powerful in the first place. I had to remove my PCL cards from my decks to make room for Ponchos because people caught onto just how powerful bench pressure is, but now I only get matched with sleep scammers. The worst part is they often perform poorly, the games really just boil down to "did you flip tails FIVE fucking turns in a row? Guess you just don't get to play the fucking game and I win then." And if that criteria isn't met then they usually just fucking lose. Every sleep scam deck is shit, but they literally get carried by forced 50/50 lose interactions.

There's just too much shit to account for now and not enough deck space to properly account for everything. Or, better yet, just fucking expand the deck size to 25 or 30 already. Make it an optional thing, it probably helps with deck variations if there was a minimum and max deck size rather than standard 20 all across anyway. The decks like Manetric who want to do things quick and dirty can still run 20 card decks while a deck countering it is free to run 2 ponchos without sacrificing required slots.

Decks are getting way too bloated now and I think DeNA seriously didn't realize how restrictive 20 cards would be after essentially making every deck now need a slot for stadium, 2 hakase, 2 monomane, akagi and/or natume, and now even tools are getting to the point where you feel required to have 2 of them in your deck as well.
